11 broken 360's... that is just out of the bounds of coincidental bad luck. He had to been up to some no good or something, the odds are just so outrageous I won't believe that human error did not come into play.

I think its probably electrical noise, they say that running fridges and AC units on the same circuit as tv's, computers and so on is bad for them.

On my second xbox 360

Post by Mega-Dan »

Never buy a xbox 360 from ebay, it could be banned from xbox live, or it could be the older models which have a higher failure rate. In fact just dont buy a xbox 360, at least for the foreseable future. They may make a hardware revision that changes the system and puts a heatsink on it (which is what they do when you send it back after it dies, and you pay them $140 to fix a design flaw!).

So if you can hold off, do so. Or just dont buy one, and dont reward a company that A) builds shoddy products B) doesnt support their product or customers and c) doesnt admit when there is a major issue.

Agreed.

I just tell everyone whos even remotely interested in the 360 to not buy it. God knows when or even if MS will admit to this major problem.

As my way of protesting I will (try) not to buy any further games on the system either which can be bought on other systems. So only Halo 3 I guess! I would reccommend others to do the same in order to get MS to sit up and take notice.

A shame really since the 360 otherwise is a good system with decent games.

This has been one of the main things putting me off splashing out the money for one. If the Wii had this kind f problem, even at £180 I wouldn't of one near it until I knew the problem was solved some how.

This seems like one of those situations where buying something second hand is NOT an option.

I'm on my second. I had my first for about 4 months. It was in and always in an upright position. One day while playing a game (I forget which one) I heard this grinding noise that sounded like the disc came loose from the track or something. Well, that indeed was the case and it totally ruined the system. I took it back to the store because it was under warranty and I got a new one. The new one is working fine since December.

my first 360 is in the shop right now. RROD. I had it all of 7 months. it didn't get used that often and was in optimal power and venting situations. I fully expect the "repaired" one to break.

This is why I am a Nintendo fan now, only they can hold MS from taking over the entire industry. BSOD now RROD....why do people still buy their barely functional products. I use OSX and Apple hardware for good reason. I won't be buying a next gen MS gaming system thats for sure.

I thought extending the warranty to three years WAS an admission. Mine still works so far, but I haven't really used it that much. I've put lots of hours into Viva Pinata and only just dabbled in a few rentals beyond that(I did finish Gears of War though). It's not an elite by the way.

As for the system's decent games, not many in my opinion. It's pretty much the same lousy selection the original Xbox had. Mostly shooters, racing games, etc, etc. If I didn't enjoy Viva Pinata so much, I'd probably regret buying the system.

I think my comment was posted before they annoucned that they would extended the warranty.

Though that still doesn't solve the problem of lousy customer service (although some people disagree with this).
