I was anticipating Spider-Man 3 for a long time. I thought it would be like Spider-Man 2, but better. Then I saw the reviews.

Final Fantasy X - Played about 20 hours and really enjoyed the first few because it had been years since I'd played a FF game or any JRPG for that matter, and I used to be way into those games in the 16-bit era. Then the douchey characters and linear nature of it hit me and I just could. not. go. back.
GTA 4 - Played about 30 hours of this one and also flip-flopped. So cool at first but then the true structure of the game presented itself and I got turned off. I also got frustrated at the insanely complex controls when it came time to run/drive/aim/shoot/camera/item pick-up all at nearly the same time.
Dead Rising - Jury's still out on this one. Playing through it now. I had built it up in my mind for some reason. I hated it at first but decided to start over with my current-level character and now that Frank is faster/stronger at an earlier point in the storyline it literally feels like a whole new game.
2D Sonic games - I always want to give these a whirl and always end up a bit bored for some reason. I need to stick with it past the first world or two one of these days...
RE: Nathan Drake: To each his own but I can't see how someone would think Drake is a douche. After years and years and years of game developers pushing "edgy" grisly, bald, assholes on us it's nice to play as a regular guy with a bit of sense of humor who's not just wisecracking for the sake of wisecracking. It's kind of like the Gordan Freeman concept, except with an actual personality.

MGS4
yes we all know that metal gear is doomed to have lengthy plot segments, but holy shit. Also, hate the whole change it took with octocamo, mgs was stealth action before, now it's a damn crawl fest. I did beat it, and there were definetly parts I enjoyed, but that game was a huge letdown for me.
As for all the gta IV backlash, yeah, I hated it too... until I bought the DLC. Rockstar listened, and now we have the goofy over the top crap we always wanted.

I agree with anyone who said GTA games, and it's always the same with any sandbox games (because most of them are GTA clones): Go there and do stuff. Why? Because it's in the game. Okay.

If not liking MGS4 makes you a sinner, what does that make me?classicgamer5 wrote:WHAT?! I get the GTA IV stuff, but not liking MGS4 is a sin, you...disappoint me.AwesomeMonstar wrote:MGS4

Web of Shadows is like Spider-Man 2 and also really well done if you like that kind of game. Although I'm only about seven hours in.darthmunky wrote:I was anticipating Spider-Man 3 for a long time. I thought it would be like Spider-Man 2, but better. Then I saw the reviews.

Re: Which was the game you wanted to like the most but didn't?
First of all, this isn't out if hate for the series. Played and beat everyone and mgs for the gameboy color is pretty high up there on my list of favorite portable games. That said, MGS4 was a fucking crawl fest, and really, it showed me that splinter cell did the same shit they tried in 4, but better. The story, no, but the gameplay yes. MGS was, as I said, always about stealth ACTION. This means that while I'm evading guards, I'm do so at a quick and efficient way, tap on a wall, lead them near, sneak past. I don't have to worry about footsteps, I don't have to worry about my camo, I can just cruise on by if I'm good enough. 4 decided to stray away from that path and make me crawl my ass past almost every guard, or treat the game as a shooter. That isn't what I came for. What the game did have was an INCREDIBLE ending though, and truly one of the best cinematic experiences out of any game, but if you're core game play suffers, that ruins it for me. The damn film noir bit just pissed me off even more, because it was as if they knew that I had wanted stuff like that all along, and only gave me a morsel to feast off of.classicgamer5 wrote:WHAT?! Oh yeah, portable ops sucks too.
