your favorite memory of holiday gaming as a kid
Re: your favorite memory of holiday gaming as a kid
I think i was 11 or 12...i had been obsessing over donkey kong country ever since i laid eyes on the screenshots in my brother's nintendo power magazine. I was truly surprised when i received and it was almost a magical feeling when i first played it -especially the swimming level. The graphics were mind blowing!

I remember on my birthday how my dad would hide things in boxes too, like when i got mario kart 64 and some controllers in a old shop vacuum box.
Good times.

Mine was getting a Super Nintendo with Super Mario World, Final Fantasy II and Final Fight. Final Fantasy II became my favorite game of all time that day, it was life changing. Great topic by the way.

Xmas 2nd grade, Sega Genesis w/ Sonic 2. My cousin got one for christmas a full year before and so an entire year (which is like a decade in 7 year old years) was spent waiting for it. Including the october birthday when I thought for sure I'd get it.

My favorite had to be in '96.
I had been perfectly content as a 10 year old playing the SNES and I guess due to a lack of Nintendo Power and cable TV I had no idea the N64 was coming out. Christmas morning I awoke to the grandest surprise, Nintendo had a new, 3D and more powerful than ever console! Good bye Super Mario World and hello Super Mario 64, Cruisin' USA and...well..I don't remember the third game...but those were clearly my favorites!

The night before christmas waiting for Santa
Dreaming about what Sonic The Hedgehog would be like. Then waking up and seeing the game there under the tree and going bananas. I was not disappointed
Thanks everyone...

Well, in 1991 when I first got my Sega Genesis I was 29 years old so I wasn't a kid exactly. We had had a Unisys version of PONG for a few years, but I really consider my Genesis my first real gaming console. I wasn't a kid at the time, but it was one of the best Christmas presents I've ever gotten! It was packed in with Sonic so I logged a lot of hours with that game. Of course, being a gainfully employed adult with a fair amount of disposable income I dove into gaming with both feet. I still have that Genesis and it's still in great shape.
Ow! My small intestine!

My grandmother had this shack near the beach up at Caloundra (hello fellow Queenslanders). We used to go there as a family and spend 2-3 weeks at a time at the beach. Heaven.
My folks would let me rent a video game system and some games for about a week each time (only ever got played at night when it was too dark/cold to swim in the surf). Great memories of "Penguin Land", "Rampage" and "Moonwalker" on Sega Master System.
This was all around the late 80's somewhere.
There was also a greasy-take-away shop on the beach that had a "Snow Brothers" arcade cabinet in it. Good times.
