your favorite memory of holiday gaming as a kid
As the holiday season is near I just want to ask what is your favorite memory as a kid during the holiday seasons when it comes to video games? Was it during christmas getting the system that you wanted and playing the thing all day? Or maybe getting the game you always wanted and beating the thing before thanksgiving break is over? For me it was on thanksgiving break I was 13 or so and I had just gotten a sega master system and 5 games for ten dollars. My friend just got a nes for his birthday and he wanted punch-out for his system and there used to be a store in our block where we grew up that sold nes games for ten dollars each. So I asked my mom for the money gave him the ten and I got the sms. The games where phantasy star, rocky, shinobi, outrun, and space harrier. I loved the system. On thanksgiving day I played shinobi to death. I remember pausing the game going downstairs eating dinner and when i came back to my room the power was off. I was mad but i turned the power on but no power. Little did i know i had used the nes power cord for my sega because my nes was right next to the sms and i had to switch the power cords back and forth for each system since we only had two prongs against the wall and the ac adapters was to big so you could only use one at a time. I was pissed off so I called the sega hotline and they told me to mail the system. 40 dollars later i sent the system out and sure enough on the 23rd of december i got my master system back from sega. I plugged the machine on and there was the sega logo and to my surprise they gave me the hang on and safari hunt built in system. I was soo happy and for christmas i got rambo and astro warrior and mario 2 for the nes. So to this day on thanksgiving I would play shinobi on my emulator from my laptop I know its not the same as grabbing the controller but i reflect a little play a little and have fun for a few minutes.

It would have to be either receiving the Super Mario SNES system for Christmas or a few years later with the PSX w/ oddworld.

I had Sonic 3 for a while and the day before Thanksgiving I picked up Sonic and Knuckles.
Needless to say, many hours were spent.

The first console I got for Christmas that was 100% mine and not shared with my brother was the Playstation. I rented Spyro and some racing game. That was very memorable. Then when I got my Xbox in 2001, it was pretty memorable because it was the first really high tech gaming system. And because it also happened to be our first dvd player. We got some star wars flying game and brought it back to trade in for Halo!

My first sega...I was really young and I was at the point of knowing about there not being a santa *I know someone is going to cry but...its true* and I didnt want to tell my mom due to thinking it would upset her. Anyway...after everything was opened I was just thinking man..all these great gifts...but no sega...then she pulls one out that was hidden behind the tree and itw as more of a...."Well why did santa put this one back there, here its for you" And...TADA!tears of joy! SEGA! All day spent playing sonic.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

Ooh, that's a close one. For me it's either when my cousin gave me his Super Nintendo on my birthday and I finally got to play Super Mario World, or When I got my N64 for Christmas and played OOT all day.
And also any amount of time I've ever spent playing DKC 1-3.

Re: your favorite memory of holiday gaming as a kid
I have two great Holiday gaming memories.
My parents bought an SNES with Super Mario World and Super Ghouls n' Ghosts for the family one Christmas. I remember being absolutely blown away by Super Mario World, and to this day it remains my favorite game of all time.
I remember playing Chrono Trigger on the SNES a few years later around Thanksgiving. I was in the basement fighting Dalton on the wing of the Blackbird, and my grandparents came over for dinner. Just one of those nice childhood memories that sticks with me for whatever reason.

Hmmm....I remember a few years ago I asked for a bunch of N64 games. I thought i didn't get them, but they were hidden. That was fun. I was a little heartbroken because they were pretty much all I asked for. Got some good games like Super Mario 64 and Zelda Ocarina of Time Gold cart.

Heh, I remember "back in the day" that my parents hid Resident Evil and FF7 in a package of socks that I unwrapped. The funny part is, I didn't discover them till the next day when I went for a fresh pair.Betamax001 wrote:Hmmm....I remember a few years ago I asked for a bunch of N64 games. Great times.
