What's the game or system you've searched for extensively only to never encounter it or to only see it fleetingly? I don't mean "what are expensive games you wish you could afford?" or "what games have you never seen in a store?" - I mean what are games that you know exist but can rarely if ever find, at any price, anywhere? If it's occasionally on eBay (e.g a couple of times a year or more), it doesn't count.
For me, my whale is a pair of 32X games that were not released in the U.S. - Darxide (very limited PAL run) and Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV (JPN release). I've seen an auction for Darxide once in the last 5 years or so but was broke at the time. I've never even seen a picture of an actual copy of Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV.
So what's yours? Maybe we can band together and at least try to find some of these things for each other...

Bonk's Adventure - GCN
released as part of the Japan-only Hudson Selection collection. Sigh.

Re: What's your white whale?
I really hate to say this... but, nothing.
In the past, it was Eternal Blue for the Sega CD... but that was over a decade ago. I can honestly say that I've found every retro gaming item I've ever wanted. Even even gone through two copies of Ogre Battle for the SNES (sold both). I've also had the PS version since its release. I guess I can die happily now?
Then again, I'm not nearly as hardcore as some people are here.

I know Bonk's Adventure has been around for other platforms but is the GC version different from the others?noiseredux wrote:Bonk's Adventure - GCN

from hardcoregaming101.net:
In 2003, Hudson started its Hudson Best Selection series of games for the Playstation 2 and Gamecube. Similar to the Sega Ages lineup around the same time, these standalone releases would remake classic Hudson games with modern 3D graphics. Hudson's series was nowhere near as expansive as Sega's - in addition to PC Genjin, the rest of the line included Adventure Island/Takahasi Meijin no Daibouken, Cubic Lode Runner, and Star Soldier - but they're all much higher quality.
The PC Genjin remake sticks closely to the original template, with the same gameplay mechanics and mostly the same levels, although there are some changes here and there. All of the sprites are 3D models now, which is a bit of mixed bag. Bonk looks fantastic, with a ton of new and wacky facial expressions - Bonk changes into a monkey in his agitated state, and appears to be holding his breath as he swims - but the enemies in general look pretty dull and lack much of the personality from the 2D days. At least the animation when he eats a piece of meet is cool, where he screams and breathes fire that richochets across the screen.

Hey! That's part of the point of this thread - maybe we can help each other find a few missing pieces...noiseredux wrote:hmm. Well. Oh. Re: What's your white whale?
darn Intellivision Play Cable, first and last one i saw the ebay went for over 1,000, so not only is it too much but too infrequent.
Re: What's your white whale?
Panzer Dragoon Mini for Game Gear and Outrun 3D and Line of Fire for SMS. These games do pop up on rare occassions but I've yet to find them in time or bid high enough to win the auctions.
Ow! My small intestine!
