CRT going bad
Today I booted up my arcade cab and the monitor is dark, real dark. When I come to this site I can't see any of the gray in the acid tech theme. I upgraded my nvidia 6800 drivers and still it was too dark. I went around and played with the nvidia color stuff and I can't seem to find a setting that looks right... so is it safe to say that my monitor is going bad since it is like 10yrs old?

hiya SpaceBooger , it could be your Monitor Chassis that is giving you troubles which can be repaired or replaced.
check this site out and post a Thread in the Monitor Section , be really descriptive as the more you are the more the guys there can identify what is wrong.

I just got my Chassis back from being Repaired by JOMAC Amusements , so dont think all is lost a Repair job can be the key to fixing this problem.

Perhaps the CRT needs new capacitors? I'm no expert but I think it may be the cause. Try asking in that forum or other arcade forum like arcadecontrols.

Check if there's a signal voltage setting somewhere in the CRT menus. If it has one it will be 3.3 V and 3.0 V or something like that. If its there and forgot so its on the wrong one, it will make the picture dark.SpaceBooger wrote: Ill try that link... but this is a computer monitor. I should have mentioned that it was a MAME Cab.

Re: CRT going bad
Ok, tried all of that stuff suggested that I could and then I swapped out the 19" for a 17" monitor (my wife's old one) and I had the same problem. So I thought it must be the video card. So I took that out reseated it and it was still too dark. I pretty much took the hole damn pc apart and had no luck... until I tried a third monitor.
Now I'm rockin a perfect color MAME Cab with a 15" monitor that you can see through my bezzle...
Oh well now it's time to hunt down a cheap (< $50) 4:3 19" monitor. This may be challenging since the only LCDs I can find are widescreen.
