Panasonic 3do FZ1 Disc Problems

Post by terrybogard »

Ok this is the problem. It is the fz1 model 1 panasonic 3d0. When i turn it on the cd drive ejects but the i close the tray it opens back up automatically. Now When i open it i see that the laser does not do anything. I hear a minor noise i think its coming from the laser motor. Then it auto ejects the tray. I not sure if i need to replace the laser motor or what? Thanks in advance

The belt that's part of the tray closing mechanism is probably worn out and needs to be replaced. It's probably stretched and isn't gripping tightly enough for the last oomph of pulling the laser assembly up into place to grab the disc. So what you're hearing is the motor grinding away trying to crank it while the belt just slips. You'll have to open it up and probably take the tray all the way out in order to see and replace it, nearly every disc system I've fixed, its hidden under the tray in one of the front corners of the drive.

I had an old CD player that it happened to a lot as well when I was living in a warm house at school. Had a friend's laserdisc player to it too, as well as several PC drives. Heat is hard on the belts. I'm sure you get pretty warm there in Panama, but perhaps the FZ1 just gets warm too.
