Game Informer's top 200 games of ALL TIME

Post by Luke »

Discuss.

For those who aren't in the know, The Legend of Zelda on NES is numero uno. And yes, NBA JAM is ranked higher than COD Modern Warfare 2.

A simple list. Nothing interesting. They don't even write about the games. That's some pretty lame journalism.

At least throw a link up here man. You think googles grow on trees?!?

I question why tony hawk 2 is at number 4.

Unless, this is a collective list rather than a list where the numbers mean something.

Let me google that for you

THPS2 is not close to the top10. It's just another lame attempt to get publicity (yes I know I fell for it), but even the shit for brains editor says something to the effect of, "Here;s our list, wanna fight about it?". And yes, the writers are still awful. If spell-check didn't exist, all of Game Informer's writers would be unemployed.

It mentioned in the text for Zelda that the games were voted on so there is probably bound to be some disagreement.

ha. I actually linked to a previous article they ran of a top 100 games of all time. In said article they put THPS2 at number 4. I guess it has fallen out of favor now? From 4 to 57. Why the hate? Or love? or something?

all video game lists are bullshit. It is all opinion pushed on the reader as fact. You know what game i really never liked? GTA III. Yet, here it is at number 4.

Love GTA 3.

If I had the spare time, I'd run some stats on this list. It would be interestingto see what consoles got the most games rated, highest games rated, etc.

Meh we all know those lists are crap.

For starters, what's a better game Civilization IV, Doom or Super Mario Bros? That question can't be answered because the games have nothing in common so as to be able to compare and measure.

Then you get the obvious "Let's put X classic here even though that there are better games now". For example why is Simcity on the list instead of Simcity IV? Why is Ms Pacman on the list when there are better maze games out there?

So, what's the point?

In the grand scheme of things, I don't think it was a horrible list. There were some surprises that made me happy and surprised (Xenosaga cracked the list, somewhere), but I don't think there were that many games that I'd strongly disagree with (I seriously take issue with Half-Life 2 being ranked above Doom, at 5 and 6 respectively, and with CoD and Tony Hawk making the list at all).

This really isn't that bad of a list, I've seen much worse elsewhere.
