Arcade fighting stick choices for PS3

I still wondering if I should get a arcade fighting stick for my PS3, given that my bro and I have Soul Caliur 4, BlazBlue, and we're thinking about getting Tekken 6.

Now, there are several choices, and prices vary widely. Which are the ones you are using, and which would you recommend?

I'm using the X-Arcade Dual Tankstick, and considering it is nigh universal, I'd recommend that. You can find them cheap on the second-hand market, they are built like a rock, and they carry a lifetime warranty. Unless you are one of the less than 1% of 1% of people who can feel any input lag (I know it felt smooth as hell to me), I'd recommend that route. It has saved me a lot of money (and space) having one arcade stick that can play all my PC, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox and PlayStation 1-3 games.

I would recommend not going with the Tekken 6 Arcade Stick, as it is pretty much 95% plastic. It felt very cheaply made and, considering it was $150 with the game and some bonuses included, I feel it'll break easily.


The Mad Catz Street Fighter sticks seem to be doing well among my friends. I didn't really care for them (I prefer American-style joysticks and buttons), but they do seem solidly built.


There's the Hori... haven't heard much about it, other than it's a Hori.


A Marvel vs Capcom stick has just hit the market. Looks nice, but I haven't gotten a chance to play with it. Considering its $160, I don't think I'll ever be playing with it. I'd bet it is of the same pedigree of the Street Fighter sticks.

No offense, but I wouldn't recommend X-Arcade because it has Chinese knockoff parts, unless you replace everything with real arcade parts. I think the best choice is one of the Real Arcade Pro sticks, their around $100 on Amazon and most of them have real arcade parts.

Haven't had any problems with these "Chinese Knock-Off" parts. They're damn functional, and I've used and abused the hell out of them.

Maybe its me because I do prefer Jpn sticks, but I didn't like the joystick in it, but the buttons are responsive. I heard horror stories about the joysticks breaking/failures on other sites, a lot of people dislike them.

That's really strange, as I haven't heard anything of that sort and the joysticks have been doing well for quite some time now.

And considering almost every other joystick I have, I have broken from overuse (my Genesis and Dreamcast joysticks come to mind), I think it's pretty damn good.

If you have the money to spend it's impossible to go wrong with any Hori Real Arcade pro model. For a little cheaper the SFIV Fightstick is pretty nice and really easy to swap parts on. For a fair bit less stick you can get a Fightstick EX2 which has a totally passable stick that can be swapped out with some effort and buttons that can be easily replaced, which you'll likely want to do before long.

In my opinion, it really is. I feel like the only reason it gets such a bad rap in a lot of online communities is that those communities hate American-styled joysticks as much as I hate Japanese-styled joysticks.

I got mine for $200 with the Dreamcast and PC adapters included, and that with it being the two joysticks in one with a track ball. Now I just have to buy the $20-30 adapters every few years. Compare that to buying a new joystick that only works with one system, for one player, for $140-160. I just can't afford that mess.

Plus, playing MAME with it is effin' awesome.

I did read the review on IGN.com on the X-Arcade, which the reviewer criticized the spacing between the two bottom layouts, as he pointed out that a fellow player was able to rub his elbow against him while they were playing fighting games.

Any room to breath when two are playing on the X-Arcade? I wouldn't want to spend extra for the track ball edition just have some more room.
