Is anyone able to get Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked working with HD Loader? I'm using 8c. It just black screens upon startup.
There was already a copy of it on the PS2 hard drive system that I bought. I also took the original DVD and used the HD Loader install option to put another copy on the drive. That didn't work.
The HDL compatibility matrix says that it will work with Mode 3 (turn off HDL after Load) on.
There are some games that need to be patched (to circumvent HDL detection) but I don't think this is one of them.
I might try putting some older versions of HD Loader on the card and running those to see if it works.
If anyone was able to get it to work, advice/tips would be appreciated.

well i havent tried personally. but i know based on sksapps' ( http://list.sksapps.com/index.php?page=indexr.html ) compatibility list almost all versions need mode 3 on. it should work if you did apply mode 3....

Re: Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked - anyone has it working with HDL
The PS2 came with 8b and initially none of the games worked. I switched to 8c, almost all of the games work except for two, including this one.
This is why I need to try the older versions. I got the 8c version off sksapps.com site and did not apply any patches to HD Loader or the games.

There is no patch for that game. Try different hdloader versions.

Re: Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked - anyone has it working with HDL
I think my problem was due to bad sectors/blocks on the hard drive. I bought another hard disk over the weekend and used WinHiip to install R & C - Deadlocked. It worked flawlessly.
I then used WinHiip to try to copy the games off the hard drive so I can reformat it. It had some errors. Then when I used Windows to do a full format, it's finding a boatload of bad blocks around the 27% formatting mark (it's a 60GB drive).
I'll let it chug along for awhile but if it doesn't progress, I might just have to toss the drive into the garbage.
I'm pretty impressed with the WinHiip program. It really seems to be the best option for putting games on the hard drive. The next best option is hdl_dumb. The last option would be the HD Loader install option because the DVD drive is only 2x speed.

yeah winhiip is by far the best in my opinion too. my only problem is that i dont have a external hard drive enclosure so that means i have to turn off my pc and put the hard drive directly in the pc. that takes more time, effort, and can possibly be bad for the pc (if done many times). ill be getting an enclosure soon though. good luck on getting the drive to work.

Re: Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked - anyone has it working with HDL
I let it run overnight and the format found thousands of bad blocks. The drive is toast. Into the garbage it goes.
The day before, I got this IDE/SATA to USB drive adapter from Amazon for $9+ shipped (I used the supplier Eforcity).
It's real easy to hook up the IDE drive. Just plug in the ide/sata connector, plug in the power and then plug in the USB cable. It's done. No enclosure to fuss with.
The transfer speed is much better. I was averaging 20MB+/s so a 4GB image transfered in a couple of minutes. On my other PC, it was averaging around 4-6MB+/s when I hooked it directly into the IDE interfact. Awesome.
Customer support for the product is pretty good. I got a response to my email the next day. I thought it was missing a male power supply connector and I didn't see that it was on the power supply itself. The male connector that I received was for connecting to the power supply for an SATA drive.
I definitely recommend this adapter if anyone is looking for a USB interface to an IDE drive. I'm going to load up the disk with the PS2 games that I have tonight.

I definitely recommend this. In my opinion, there's no sense getting an enclosure for it. You just want to hook it up to your computer easily and then pop it back into your PS2.
I also ordered the SATA kit (maxdiypower.com) for the PS2 700xx series (slim). This allows you to use a hard drive with the v12/v13 slims.
