Re: NES wont work

I'm having a problem with mine also, I played Ninja Gaiden fine a few days ago as well as Crystalis and I wouldn't have to jiggle or anything. I received about 8 more games that I ordered and I cleaned them all before trying them, since then when I put games in it takes me about 5 minutes of jiggling. I usually get a red light and it flashes, sometimes it's solid. I know the games work as I see a messed up version of the title screen and sometimes I actually get it to start up. I opened my NES recently also and cleaned the 72 pin connector contact but that's about it.

I probably just need a new 72 pin connector as well as the OP, correct?

Or bending them might work.

Don't play any battery backup games until you've got it fixed, a flashing NES is very likely to wipe them.

Last time I had it open I was interested in bending them but I don't quite understand what I'm supposed to do exactly, I can't really see a difference in those before and after pictures. Do I just have to lift each of them up?

Look at the second picture how the top/bottom pair of gold 2 pronged teeth in the middle are nearly touching. In the before picture there's a big black gap all the way across.

Oh I see now, thanks, I needed you to point that out. I couldn't really see because I thought it was a reflection from the camera etc.

I am lucky enough to never have have a flashing NES. Its my understanding that the flashing is caused by the lockout chip, couldn't you disable the lockout chip (The same way you do to region free your machine) to stop the flashing?

I know it wouldnt make the NES read your games any better, but would it stop the flashing?

Yeah, it wouldn't flash, but the flashing was only another symptom of dirty connectors. The reason it would flash is because the communication between the lockout chip in the console and the game failed. Of course this failed because of the dirty cart and whatnot. If you disable the lockout and things aren't cooperating, you'll usually just get a solid colored screen or scrambled graphics.

As I said I didn't think it would make it read the game any better, I was more leaning towards that it would remove the risk of removing saved data on games that contain battery's.
