In case you missed the news, I'm wrapping up a divorce soon -- been separated for about 6 months now. Thought I'd give the whole eHarmony thing a try...
To be honest, I'm not looking to get serious with anyone right away (although, I guess you never know), but figured it wouldn't hurt to start testing the waters -- haven't been on a first date in 10 years.
Been getting about 8 matches a day for the first few days -- gone through a few rounds of questions with a few women, but most of the others seem to take their time responding (after reading up on the eH forums, I guess that's typical)
Anybody else ever used it?
Edit: fast-forward over a year to see the results:

So I'm doing the eHarmony thing now...

I actually considered it after my wife and I split up, but ultimately didn't bother (not going to either, since we're back together now).

Hey there Racketboy. I read about your story while I was a lurker. Sorry about the split. I'm pretty glad that you're getting out there though. Are you aiming for an open relationship?

To be honest, I'm just looking for somebody to hang out with and get to know and see where it goes from there. Part of me is actually enjoying being on my own, but having someone new to share some time with would be nice.

Well, even that kind of lost me. I'm pretty sure you'll find a girl you fancy. But isn't eHarmony supposed to find a few really good match-ups? Sounds like they're kind of throwing ladies at you with 8 matches a day.

Well, I'm pretty picky, so I'd rather not waste my time with someone that isn't a good fit for me. And, from what I hear, you get a handful of matches at the beginning and then it starts to trail off towards one or two a day. I close about half of the matches pretty much at the start depending on the picture and/or profile.Veno wrote:Well, even that kind of lost me. I'm pretty sure you'll find a girl you fancy. Well, I think that you deserve to be picky. You wanna spend time with a girl that you might possibly get deeper with. With me though, for a girl to hang out, I think it'd be nice to have a gamer girl. A girl who shares my same life interest.

Re: So I'm doing the eHarmony thing now...
I haven't ever tried internet dating but I have to think that men outnumber women there. A co-worker of mine met her husband through match.com about 4-5 years ago so that's one success story that I know of.
I would try to make a point of being more sociable. Get out there in public and make an effort to meet people, especially women. Try to find opportunities to strike up a conversation with people. The more opportunities you have, the more likely you'll find a match. Let your friends (and their significant others) suggest possible people to meet. As you get more chance to talk/socialize with people, your social skills will improve. Try to be a good listener and look for common interests.
My wife thinks that I'm one of the most friendliest people with great social skills. Little does she know that I was a bit of a nerd in middle/high school.
Sure, I struck out a bunch of times. I remember one woman I dated a handful of times thought I was wishy-washy. But learn from your mistakes and just move on. Good luck!

I hope everything works out Racket!
Relationships can be quite the challenge especially if it's your first one in a while, but I'm glad that you're back out there and haven't let everything get you down.
