He's actually driving up to Tuscaloosa as we speak. I'll mention it to him when he gets here.

Summer works for me, but I think that if we're going to try to make this work, a year from now seems more feasible.

eh, that's a what... 12 hour drive... I could do that. That's also the month following my project deadling meaning I'd have a little time to spare out of town.

Contacted Fastbilly1.

Seems like we have a good group of people who are in, but if we're going to do this, I suggest that we can get every mod to commit to a weekend/date.

We need to know our reps will be there, and when.

Let's take this step by step, which I hate to do, because I have dozens of ideas for this.

With a year advanced notice I can set any weekend date and just put it in my calender. Make sure that I don't set any work for that weekend.

I don't know what the hell I'd contribute to it other then standing in a corner staring at people and randomly throwing my girlfriend at someone that looked at me funny.

I guess I could show my prototype or something...

Well I know both Spacebooger and myself teach, so any time during the school year is rough for us. I know that we certainly have plenty of members who are students, too...

My vote would be for 4th of July weekend - either 2010 or 2011. I think NC is a good place, but maybe we could have a vote? I'd suggest:

-Chicago
-Philly
-Charlotte (or Raleigh)
-Los Angeles
-Denver
-Dallas

Anyplace that gets lots of air travel and has cheap rates would probably be a good location. It might be fun to do a live podcast from the convention :D

I'd be able to coordinate with fastbilly1 on most of the planning of panels, events, etc. as I have tons of conference experience (for academic conventions). I think summer 2011 actually makes sense so that we could plan it between now and this summer and then announce it a year in advance.

I'd suggest against 4th of July weekend.

2 reasons:

holiday weekends see higher rates for travel expenses

people usually already have plans then (i.e. I travel to new england every july)

That's why november actually seems a little discerning as well. Considering most people are traveling that month for thanksgiving already... and dsheinem makes a great point about teachers and students.

I'd say late July early August. But that's me...
