So, I got my FMCB memory card in today from gtmntbiker. Thanks.
I have made a backup copy easily enough. Now the big question is this. I have a 30GB 7200rpm hard drive hooked up in it and it recognized and formatted everything ok.
HDloader seems to be letting me backup my retail discs within the program to be played from the hard drive. Is that all I need to do for retail discs? What about downloaded copies?
Is there some important tutorial or other faq or general information I should be reading?
Lastly, can I establish a direct network link from my laptop to the PS2 for transfers?

Re: FBMC and Hdloader....
Also, wow is it slow to rip them from retail disc...20 mins?!?
The copies you find on bitgamer and such seem like they are smaller is something ripped from them?

Re: FBMC and Hdloader....
To load ISOs you want hdld_svr.elf on your PS2 (memory card or USB stick) and hdl_dump on your PC. It's still pretty slow however. 2MB/s is roughly 25 minutes per DVD IIRC. If I were you I'd use hdl_dump for retail games too just to save the laser on your PS2.
I don't think there's a good all in one tutorial for this stuff. I googled around and picked up bits and pieces from here and there. Not sure why they don't include hdld_svr.elf in the standard FMCB distribution.

Re: FBMC and Hdloader....
Is it really any more taxing on the laser than just playing the games? Anyway, I'm still wondering can I just run a network cable straight from the laptop to the ps2 or do I need to go through a router?

This is probably the best starting point. http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/jp1 wrote:So, I got my FBMC memory card in today from gtmntbiker. Thanks.

There's also a good thread in this forum that gave me some info. I can't find it at the moment. Lisalover1 created it. Mozgus flamed him for not doing any research at all.
As Hatta mentioned, you want to use hdl_dump, and hdl_srv (sp?). One part that wasn't clear is that you need to have an ipconfig.dat in the system folder of the memory card. Just create it and put it on your memory stick. Then use uLaunch to copy the file from your memory stick to the memory card.
Google for ps2 ipconfig.dat to find the format of the file.

I was wondering if there were scrubbed versions. Last night, I was trying to load Ratchet & Clank Deadlocked. It took close to an hour! The DVD plays fine.jp1 wrote:Also, wow is it slow to rip them from retail disc...20 mins?!?

I have to say that playing off the hard drive is a lot easier on the xbox. Something I took for granted.

Here's a good thread to look at:

Re: FBMC and Hdloader....
You should be able to directly connect the PS2 to your computer if you use a crossover cable. It's probably easier to just use a hub/switch/router though.

Jesus, I can tell I am getting to old for this..
So all the damned guides have absolutely nothing in common. I can't figure what is current and useful.
I have the hdl_srv.elf on the usb stick but I can't get access to put an ipconfig file on the mem card.
Can I leave a router connected to the PS2 and then connect wireless on the laptop and FTP in?
Can FMCB play backups from dvd?

I got tired of fighting the networking and adding that extra step to slow things down. I just pull the HD out and connect it to a junk computer and dump directly.
