So... let's start our own game development group.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I did. We could get some small flash cards from say dealextreme. Sell them for $20 or so. Maybe more as they'll be limited edition collectables. And people who don't care about collecting can just download the ROM for free.

Come to think of it, I once consulted for a 3-D design firm, they could be a valuable resource.

I can program but I only work with database and business apps. Game programming I never tried. Anything I can help with?
Thanks everyone...

Sorry my strengths my two biggest strengths are in ideas and marketing. You seem to have ideas down and marketing doesnt come until MUCH later.

If you dare sell me a game on a flash cart and try to pass it off as the real deal on actual mask roms like an official or more expensive production cartridge I'll mutiny.

Trust me, if we're going to spend money on a physical copy of a game (Especially cartridges) then you're going to want to put it on high quality media such as Mask ROMs (not EEPROMS) or pressed (Not burned!) disc media.

Talk to the guys over at Tototek and the Pier Solar Site, they've partnered up to print MASK ROM carts for Water Melon's (Pier Solar's developer) games, so they could be a great source of advice and a good contact to have as a buddy for the packaging/advertising/manufacture/development side of things.

Also fire off a few emails to Super Fighter Team, they're the guys that translated and recently re-released Beggar Prince and Legend of Wukong on the Genesis using actual official MASK ROMS.

In the end though, trust me, if you're going to make people spend money or even more in the case of a special edition (Especially in my case as I'm a frugal and broke guy.) you're going to want to put it on high quality 100% permanent media.

Yall are getting way to deep into the end game of creating than the beginning. First decide on one idea, then choose a format, then get to work on the engine. Everything else is not very important right now - sans market research but that is an aside.

Releasing a PC title would be the easiest and probably best idea, mainly since there are a plethora of development tools and distribution options. IF it makes any money then you can look into porting it or programming it for another format.

I'd love to do something like this, but don't have time while in grad school for psychology. If you need a consultant on psychological aspects of the game though, I'm your man. I have lots of ideas about how to elicit emotions through the gaming medium. I could also perhaps contribute to the writing.

I know, I'm just saying that flash cart = instant no buy for me and a lot of people that enjoy collecting as the data and flash cart will go bad after a few years compared to the near infinite lifespan of a Mask Rom.

Like I said though, talk to the guys over at Water Melon games and Super fighter team for some tips on manufacturing along with it's costs and perils.

Plus if you're going sell a physical copy or something as such then people should be expecting to pay more than just $20 considering all the stuff that comes with it such as manuals, maps etc...
