So... let's start our own game development group.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Maybe we could distribute it for you?

"In this Castlevania-esque game, you play a woman who finds herself drawn in to a plot hatched by necromancers to resurrect Elizabeth Batho-"

Woah, woah. Stop, stop it.

I'll write the music for a game based on Bathory right now.

Cool, but right now it's just an idea. I'd love to see it come to life, but I could go on in a world that didn't have it.

But what kinda music are you thinking about?

And to the artists who want to drum up some stuff for Bathory:

* the main character IMHO should look like Asia Argento OR a black-haired Miriam McDonald (note: pic link may be to an old pic of her)
* I imagine Bathory looking like a mix of Rita Repulsa and Amy Lee
* A skinless chick with batwings as one of the baddies
* A boss that resembles essentially a female version of Pirates of the Caribbean's Davy Jones
* something Cenobite-like for the baddies on one level with a Cenobite-like boss
* some images of Bathory's castle, based on Castle Cachtice.

I'm a Software Engineer, but I dont have much in the way of creative ideas. I'm mainly c# but I've got experience of c++ and actionscript and I can pick up any language really. They are all the same when you get down to the brass tacks.

I dont have too much time, and I dont have any money to invest but if you need something coding I'll be happy to get involved.

I tried making a game years ago (a castlevania one at that, based on the SOTN engine). It's not as easy as it sounds. Before you spend too much time on story, graphics, music, or anything like that, make sure you can get a solid engine together with proper physics, hit detection and controls. Even better if you can get an API with intuitive editors that people can use to create content for the engine. If you can do that, then you'll have no problem getting the rest together. I had people dumping massive amounts of new music, sprite sheets, and awesome gameplay ideas at me, but after going through 3 programmers and finally trying to build the API myself it fell apart. There are many more talented artists on the web than programmers willing to work for free on a game that can't make money.
Here's the old website from archive.org if anyone's interested.

Well, I'd really like to make that game I talked about earlier... the one with the LittleBigPlanet approach to a 2D Fighter (within a 3D engine, for ease of creation on the part of the user). Create characters with a versatile character maker, make your own moves, and then share characters, moves and parts with people around the world so they can make their own characters.

Granted, this isn't something that can be done by a group of amateurs. Creating a game based around allowing people to create their own game takes a hell of a lot of work.

The problem with that advice is that the "quit it" portion of the process becomes much more complicated after the "hit it" maneuver has been completed. Much easier to "quit it" before all else.

I'd be willing to contribute art - at least in the beginning to see if everyone thinks its the right direction.

I'm going on a 12 day vacation to California tomorrow though. I'm excited at the prospect of how much thread reading I might have on this topic when I return!
