I mean, let's face it. We all have ideas for games, but no one to make them for us. And that leaves us to try to make the game ourselves and either fail miserably or succeed albeit pyrrhically (I don't think that's a word, but you get my meaning).
And we are the fans. And who better to make games to appease the fans than other fans?
Surely enough of us could muster enough skills towards this endeavor. I, myself, am a poor follower and by that logic a born leader. I also have a head full of ideas, but no way to manifest them into a physical or metaphysical form. But many people have the knowledge that I lack. And surely some of them are in the market for ideas.
We could start off small with flash games, and then work our way up to games for iPhone, XBLA/XNA, other digital distribution means.
And if you can't come up with ideas, program, do art, do music or anything else, then you can do anything from manage the money to setting up the webpage.
And we'll all work on promotional work, showing off our works at local conventions and such.
Now, who's with me?
So... let's start our own game development group.

Programmer here, though at the moment I do not have much spare time. I wouldn't mind helping.

This sounds interesting. I can't do anything, but just wanna let you guys know you'll have someone supporting you from the sidelines. And if there's a simple task I can do that fits my criteria, I can jump in for a bit, but don't count on that.

Anyone else?
And I've got a few basic concepts for games:
* Bathory (working title): In this Castlevania-esque game, you play a woman who finds herself drawn in to a plot hatched by necromancers to resurrect Elizabeth Bathory, known to many as "The Countess of Blood". In this game, use any weapons you can get to stop all sorts of baddies and demons. Another neat feature is branching level progression based on multiple paths in levels and in-game time.
* Totally Tycoon: a series of business sims set in the '80s, both in spirit, sound and aesthetic. One game puts you in the seat of a Valley Girl who ends up inheriting a dead-end shopping plaza and must turn it into the best mall in town. Sports a classic 2D look and '80s-style chiptunes.
* untitled puzzle game: plays similar to Puzzle Fighter, but instead you colors, you deal in elements of nature. The four basic elements are Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Water TRUMPS Fire, Fire TRUMPS Earth, Earth TRUMPS Air, and Air TRUMPS Water. So when you form a cluster of element pieces, you must get rid of them with the element shard of the trumping element. Based on an old idea I had for a puzzle game, though its gameplay was different.
* Wretchedness - Be the Villain (working title): in this RTS/sim, play as the bad guy from the same mold as King Koopa and Eggman, as you create armies to crush the good guy. Admittedly similar to such games as Dungeon Keeper and Evil Genius.
* untitled fairy tale fighting game: in the vein of Street Fighter, play as one of countless fairy tale icons. Use Rapunzel's long hair as a Cat-O'-Ninetails. Make your opponent wishes that Pinochio DID have strings... so they can stop his psychotic onslaught. And watch out for Cinderella's flying kicks or you'll end up shitting glass for a week!
* The Civil Wars of Oz: the land just over the rainbow has just broken out in war. Choose any of the factions available (Munchkinland, Quadling, Winkie, and Gillikan, with unlockable Ev and Nome factions) in an RTS that will make the Yellow Brick Road a little more red than yellow.
* Mall Mauler (working title): retail therapy just got violent. As if getting the stuff on your list wasn't hard enough, there's a mondo sale at the mall, and somehow all the shoppers are armed... and won't take shit from anyone. Just don't expect that little old lady to let you walk away. I mean, how can she... especially when she's got a machine gun attached to her walker.
* untitled Tower Defense game: basically, a tower defense game... with a retro gaming look and feel.
That's all I got right now.
And in case you didn't figure it out yet, all of our games would have a retro feel.
Well, I hope to have every apt programmer on board.Amon wrote:Programmer here, though at the moment I do not have much spare time.
Like I said, whatever you can do to help will be gr8.Veno wrote:This sounds interesting. I can't do anything, but just wanna let you guys know you'll have someone supporting you from the sidelines. I don't have the time for most of those things, but I can offer suggestions and my opinion on what you guys come up with.

I was working on a Darkstalkers OpenBOR mod.... but I haven't done anything with it in a long, long while.
There's a part of me that really wants to get into Unreal Engine 3, ever since Epic Games made it free to download. I mean, almost every game these days uses Unreal Engine 3 - it wouldn't be a bad thing to learn.
