Dire was a panelist on a retrogaming panel with Racket and myself at Momocon in 2008. He wrote a book called Memoirs of a Virtual Caveman which I know follows his life through gaming but I only got to read an excerpt of it. I called him the Caveman Guy since he was pitching his book on Racket at the time and when it comes time for me to run a convention it is much easier for me remember people for why they are there than anything else.

Anyway, yeah, fastbilly's dead-on accurate. It's been nearly two years now since that Momocon appearance, though, and Memoirs of a Virtual Caveman has pretty much come and gone. It was a fun ride, Momocon being one of the highlights. Even though I didn't manage to get a single sale from my appearance there, I enjoyed myself as much as I could given the circumstances in my life right at that time (I never got the DVD either, unfortunately). I think sales probably would have gone better if it was a full-blown classic gaming convention rather than an anime con with a retrogaming section.

So I'm working on a new book, due out early next year. There's still some videogame stuff involved, but I can guarantee you that this will find even less of an audience than MoaVC did. Which doesn't bother me, to tell you the truth. Personally, I'd be happy if MoaVC and the new book, Tales from The Third Moon, ended up being used by historians as reference material regarding the early years of electronic entertainment as seen by the public (particularly videogames and the internet).

But enough about me. lordofduct, I hope all of this answers your questions. If not... I AM THE TERROR THAT FLAPS IN THE NIGHT! etc., etc...

I am but a simple caveman, I don't know much about your world and its online console and fancy emulators. But I do know this. When a man briefly appears on a forum and then doesn't show for a while due to a cross-country move and then posts again out of the blue - then he is entitled to a proper greeting.

While I realize that I joined the forums after that, I actually met you at that convention. I'm having one of those weird issues where I intend to buy your book, but I never remember to do it when I have money, and then the instant I don't have money, I remember to buy your book.

I'm sorry. I still really want to read it too.
