Street Fighter Alpha 2... made me almost cry
Re: Street Fighter Alpha 2... made me almost cry
birdie never gives me trouble on Alpha 2, sagat on the other hand......
Re: Street Fighter Alpha 2... made me almost cry
I have Alpha 2 on the snes. It really sucks playing against friends though, because of the load times. I don't really mind them that much when I'm just doing 1 player by myself.
Alpha 2 is probably tied with super sf2 for my favorite street fighter games.

Re: Street Fighter Alpha 2... made me almost cry
Rolento is my favorite character. Back when it was new in arcades, I won 3 tournaments with Rolento at Sunnyvale Golfland. The only way my Rolento could be stopped was by a really good Chun Li player. I think Rolento makes the game unbalanced as he has many advantages over most of the characters. People used to get so pissed when I beat them.
I am not really the type to brag, but I was just so proud of my Rolento. They fixed Rolento's unbalances in Alpha 3 and Capcom VS SNK 2. Dammit.

You used to play at Sunnyvale back in the day? Pretty bad ass fighting culture down there, I played in several Super SF2 Turbo tourney's back in the day down there. Fierce competition.

Re: Street Fighter Alpha 2... made me almost cry
has anyone else noticed the HUGE speed difference between the Saturn and PSX versions of this game? My god the PSX version is horrible, the load times alone are maybe 5 to 7 seconds longer.
i think this is the only game i have on multiple platforms
I own the PSX version (via PS store on ps3)
the Saturn Version
on alpha anthology (ps2)
and the SNES version!!!
and have the rom for MAME as well.
the only one that comes close to the arcade (other than anthology) is the saturn version

My friend and I played the Saturn version of Alpha 2 Gold the other day. Load times before matches are still in the 7 to 9 second range. Game speed is the same as the arcade version as far as I can tell.

play the PSX version right after you'll see the differencewip3outguy7 wrote:My friend and I played the Saturn version of Alpha 2 Gold the other day. Load times before matches are still in the 7 to 9 second range. Game speed is the same as the arcade version as far as I can tell.

LOL, I don't own it and probably never will again. From the crusty, FMV version of the sprite based arcade intro to the horrible load times and half pint sprites missing enough frames to throw off game play - it was awful. I was working for Software Etc at the time and we played the PSX version for about 30 mins until we couldn't take it anymore. My manager turns to me and says, "let's see how the Saturn version turned out." 5 mins later I was driving to Toys R' Us to pick up a brand new Saturn at a $50 blowout price.

Haha I think the only person I've EVER really had trouble fighting in ANY street fighter is probably Gill on Street Fighter III GOD DAMN his special pisses me the crap off!!!! You finally think you're about to win then boom his health goes all the way back up and your like dkjfa;ljl;dfajlksdfjl;ajl;djlkfjldfaljkdl!!!! I hate him so freaking much! but street fighter II on the anniversary edition for ps2 and xbox is a pretty tough game too i never had trouble with any street fighter except hyperfighting edition lol

Plus, its supports the PS2 hard drive (remember those?) if you install the game to the hard drive, the load times are like non-existent.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:I've found that using hard kick from an areal jump or as a leg sweep tends to get me past Birdie in under a minute in most circumstances.
Then again my primary is good old Ryu, and I tend to have some trouble with Guy.
Also I agree with you completely, SF:Alpha 2 & 2 Gold is one of the best fighters ever made and really captured that SF feel that I think was lost in Alpha III (I HATE the Capcom announcer guy, music and general pace of the game). I still find SF:III New Generation & 2nd Impact to be my favorite SF's followed by SF:A2, then SF:III Third Strike (although SF:III is the most balanced and well made 2D fighter ever created in my opinion the other installments overshadow it when it comes down to sheer fun factor) and finally SF:II and all of it's various installments given my lack of experience with the SF:II series.
Also check out the PS2 SF:Alpha Anthology, it has all of the Alpha games including gold, Pocket Fighter with unlockable Alpha III Upper and Hyper SF:Alpha. Plus by holding down triangle and X as your PS2/PS3 system boots the game up activates a progressive scan mode for a lag free experience on an HDTV.
