Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Brag worthy game achievements...

Post by Yackom »

OK so, every gamer has the list of games they crushed in one way or another to make them feel accomplished and proud. I wanna hear what games people around here have gotten ridiculously good at. Like for example I know a couple kids who can beat contra without dieing.

Which are yours? and what are some other notoriously hard games you need to have sweet vengeance upon before you can die happy.

Some that come to mind right now are, which regretfully are mostly newer titles. I'll think of more retro ones later I hope.

I can beat 1941 Arcade version without dieing (I still get hit a few times but power ups keep me afloat)
I recently beat Braindead 13, which was a game I wanted to play since it was hyped before its release but havent had the chance until recently.
Killed all of the Spiders on level 12 of Doom2 with only the brass knuckles - which took forever.
Quake 3 on nightmare.
God of War for ps2 on nightmare, its pretty tough.
Gears of War on insane.

But I think my ultimate is I once beat Metal Slug 1 without dieing. I was able to beat the game on 1 credit for a while before I had done this, but once- without dieing. I'll admit that game is the easiest in the series. None the less I still think it was an awesome feat for such a quarter eater.

As for things I want to do, which are mostly NES games that still haunt me. I just want to beat these, lol.
NES: Super Mario 2, TMNT, Battletoads, Shadow Gate
A more recent one, Complete Red Star (ps2) on its hardest level

Contra NES without dying twice in a row - sadly the record is 30+ times...
Super Mario Bros 2 in under 10 minutes.
Final Fantasy V - back on the Super Famicom, before I knew Japanese at all, and before translation guides were easy to find. Looking back it took me well over 200 hours to beat a forty hour game...
Tatsujin/Truxton - still have trouble on the metorites, I have beaten it once, but been playing it since it came out.
Galaga - A friend of mine started playing at seven am in our college arcade. I came by at nine and he was still playing, I played for a couple hours while he went to class, then handed it off to a mutual friend. We played on one quarter for fourteen hours, three or four of us. The arcade operator turned the power off because he wanted to keep his highscore on it...
AeroFighters - Holding the same highscore on the same 1slot neogeo in the college arcade for three years, and there werent that many games so it got a decent amount of game time.
HALO - Up to Legendary, Up to Heroic with the controller upside down, and on easy with my feet. I actually beat my roommate in college with my feet in deathmatch. Worst of all, we were playing Halo...
Mario Kart Double Dash - 8 player race. I went with Para Trooper and Baby Koopa in the red shell car for four hours, first place all but nine times, all with my feet.

Pc games:
Call of Duty - first kill by swinging the binoculars.
Quake 3 on Nightmare, Quake 3 deathmatch with 11 nightmare bots only using the gauntlet.
UT2k4 tournaments with only the shieldgun.
PC games are really multiplayer to me so I am just going to stop here.

There is a reason I can triple box an MMO without macros. It also lead me to realize that both modern games were to easy and that I may need a new hobby. Which explains why my game time has been cut from roughly ten hours a work week to two. Weekends are still anybodys game.

i beat sonic 3 and knuckles in 3 hours, with every chaos emerald. i dunno if that's a great feat or not but that's about all i've ever done.

i'm sure i've owned and sold more consoles than most people on this board. well, maybe not this board but i have owned a lot.

I personally consider this one a big feat to pull off.

Beat Kid Chameleon without a tutorial or anything

That game just really whomped on me for years. Hard freakin' game.

others...
beating subterrania only dieing twice in the whole game (those 2 times were at the end boss).
having the patience to beat ToeJam and Earl repeatedly (great game, gets boring real fast).
Being able to beat both Contra Hard Corps and Contra Shattered Soldier with out dieing.

+1. it's hard enough to try and figure out what's going on half the time.

I've beaten Dr Mario to the never ending loop of level 24 quite a few times. I suck at Tetris though.

I haven't done anything too grand. I broke the score counter in Asteroids for 2600. I 100%'d quite a few games over the years, like some Castlevanias and Metroids, Brave Fencer Musashi, and such. I beat FF7 in 20.5 hours. I cant think of much else.

On FF7 I managed to get the date sequence with Tifa, Aeris, Yuffie and Barrett. Yes, I played that game a lot.

And, yeah, the 2600 version of Asteroids. I got to the point where I could play forever without dying. Same with Laser Blast.
