I just want to be a jerk and point out that Smash TV is not a Run N Gun, it is an arena shooter.

Whoa, I didn't even realize it had a six-button control scheme. SWEET!

The top 10 Arena Shooter list I'm working on for the 8/16-bit era is already overflowing with so many games that the only way I could fit in everything was to include Smash TV under the run 'n gun list.

GREAT addition. I love Ranger X. Such an epic game! O and the game is VERY playable with a 3 button controller. I actually prefer it(but then again my 6 button controller sucks worse than all of the nes simpsons games).

On another note I finally bought Gunstar Heros for the first time. I haven't gotten to far but from what I have seen the game is very cool. So far I wouldn't rank it #1, but then again I am kinda a contra fanboy. I just need to play it with some friends tomorrow then I'll have the final verdict.

Congrats on an awesome acquisition. Gunstar Heroes is the biz! I, too, love Contra. Nice avatar by the way. I'll never forget beating the original without the code for the first time. Still my favorite in the whole franchise as my top 10 probably makes clear. What gives Gunstar Heroes the edge in my mind is the greater depth in weapons (and all their combinations), hand-to-hand moves, and an insanely diverse set of levels, not to mention one of the best bosses ever: SEVEN FORCE!

Here's what I find strange about lists like this. I see a game like the original Contra for the NES on there and it puzzles me, because sometimes I think people confuse "best" with "classic". No one can deny that the original Contra is a classic, but when looking at everything that been done with the genre since, I think it has no business bieng on a top 10 list. Contra Hard Corps is a better game in every regard in my opinion and deserves to be in the list while the original Contra should actually be an honorable mention

Just my opinion. For the most part though, I like this list and I like the site too.

Because Metal Warriors was developed by Lucas Arts and when one thinks of Lucas, they think of George Lucas.

Yes.

Yes!

What, is it that hard to believe that Retro Gamers may be into Star Wars?
I think you may be a little confused..
No I think you may be a little confused, sir.

I'm just kidding, however LucasArts (and Lucas himself) has been pissing me off lately. You did seem a little hostile in your post. There's plenty of reasons to play Cybernator over Metal Warriors, like... um like... Cybernator has, ...dammit.
