NES Still not working even after pin replacement
Hi i repair consoles and broken stuff for a guy that has a video game stand at the local weekend flea market. He gets me all kind of broken stuff ranging from nes's, ps2's, xbox's etc. Usually I can fix most of it. Recently he gave me 2 NES's that were broke. As soon as i put the game in i could tell they both needed pin replacements. I made sure they turned on first then ordered the pins. I replaced both NES pins. One works One does not. The one that doesnt work just shows a black picture. Sometimes it still blinks even with the new pin installed as the other works first shot every time. But always just shows a black screen. Does anyone have any pointers to get this puppy running again.

Help me, Hobie-wan Kenobi; you're my only hope!
Seriously, when Hobie sees this, I guarantee you will get some nice ideas on what's wrong with it.

Thanks Jfe
Even though its a new edge connector, I'd still give it a cleaning anyway. If you don't have a specific NES cleaner, you could use a doubled piece of (flat) cardboard from a cereal box, brown sides out. Make sure it is clean and then dampen with rubbing alchohol. Or better yet if you're doing that much cleaning for the guy, buy some electrical contact cleaner and use that. Slide it in and jiggle it around a little bit. Even though you usually don't have to worry about the area where the connector slides onto the board, check that too, especially if this was a really bad system where someone spilled a soda on it.
I'd also check the pins in the new connector as well, even though its new. Make sure they're even and carts are tight to put in. This page has info on bending the pins. http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/nes ... _connector
Failing all that, look for bulging caps on the system board or any bad solder joints that might have failed if the system was dropped.

There's audio locations on that same page with the pin bending.
