Is there a NES clone that plays roms?
Is there a NES clone that plays roms?
Via SD card or whatever, I'm not talking about the nes on a chip machines but an "under the tv" console that loads nes roms and had decent compat?
Re: Is there a NES clone that plays roms?
This is mostly new consoles that play classic games. some dual systems and portable (like play NES on a little screen).

Portable game thingy that will play ROMs off of a flash card. (internal flash too). it has TV-out, so you can use it with a TV.

There is nothing that does exactly what you have in mind because most people would just use an old crappy computer with some USB controllers and a TV-out card. That is what i do to play classic games on emulator. The only other option i can think of is a PSP becuase of the custom fireware and TV-out (custom firmware on PSP will let you plug a controller in it's USB port). But for what you want, the Dingoo A-320 will play NES and stuff for about $80~$90. Dingoo has a custom firmware too.

Only way I'm aware of to do it with an actual console versus a handheld.

I was thinking about this and it occurred to me that a soft moded xbox would be exactly what you want. just look around the net. the RetroZone's powerpak is pretty neat, but no way is it worth it. you could find an old pentium 2, buy a Tv-out card and usb controllers for less then $100. And like i said, an old xbox plus a hard drive (ten gig would be plenty) would work perfectly. i'm pretty sure you could even mod an NES controller to plug into the xbox controller port (becuase xbox controllers are just usb)
that probably wasn't very helpful

must be a way to mod a nesonachip to read SD or something insted of a cart or built in games. if so, this one would be pretty sweet
