Games better on Genesis than SNES?

 Yup, we're a crazy bunch.

I'm going to have to agree with LoD's examination on the game in the end as it's one of those titles that you can't really give a true rating of one over the other (Unless you're talking about the CD ver. vs. the cartridge ver.), but if I really had to pick I'd either own both (Both versions are dirt cheap anyway) or own the Genesis/Sega CD version as that's what it was originally designed for.

As for the missing graphical effects a good example is 'Down the Tubes':

Here is the Genesis version:

Note how the level has a very 'underwater' feel too it with the scrolling water effects and heavy use of transparency with tons of glass in every room.

Here is the SNES version:

Note how the level no longer has the rippling water scrolling effect and how the windows are smaller inside of hallways etc.

It really is just preference, but I've always thought that those weird scrolling effects whenever you're underwater in most Genesis games were pretty cool.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

Wow and I just noticed that the SNES version uses almost the same music track for down the tubes as the do in new junk city... only slightly different, mostly that being an extra sound effect layer when in the glass bubble with the "bluuab" sound.

I have to admit though, looking through all version of this game really reminds me why I love it so much.

It is a true example of great craftsmanship in games. All the way down to the music itself. How to effectively get depth and variance out of your game with such a tight and small box to fit it in.

Note in EWJ cartridge games that the music isn't a single loop track like a lot of games are. Instead Tommy Tallarico threw together multiple loop samples which could then be dynamically spun together in game resulting in multiple sound tracks. You could evolve the sound of a single level off of the same basic samples and end up with a relatively different sounding track of the same theme by the end of a given level.

That's freakin' awesome in my book.

It's stuff like that that made me want to be a game developer.

Man I really wish I have played this game as well as the sequel, which also sounds pretty good. Just never bought this one for some reason.

IMO, no game on genesis is better than it's SNES counterpart. Even though MK1 has the blood code. But the graphics, sound, and gameplay are still superior on the SNES. I only get exclusives for the Genesis.

Sure did... and it really highlights the usual. SNES from a technical stand point tends to create better games. But if a bad developer is behind it, the genesis sometimes ended up with a better port, or sometimes the Genesis version ends up with more modes due to smaller code and resource size because of the scaled down graphical quality. In the end most of the time you should expect the SNES to have:

better sound
more colours
crisper graphics

One thing I differ about is that any control schemes that sucked in 3-button mode wouldn't suffer with the 6-button controller which quickly became the standard after the SNES hit shelves here in the US.

Furthermore I want to say though that more frequently if the Sega version was the shittier of the two, it still wasn't bad and was very playable (accept for Street Fighter, man they screwed the pooch with that series on the genny). But time and time again when the SNES had the shittier one, it was shitty.

Thank you, I'm glad somebody did. I took the time to note the controller differences because these would often lead the gamer community to label a game inferior, though having a Genesis six-button controller would solve the issue. Yet even with the six-button controller, it didn't save certain Genesis games that weren't necessarily any better or worse than their SNES counterparts, such as Double Dragon V.

Pit Fighter... why the hell are we talking about Pit Fighter? That game sucked on both systems.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?
