I just saw it on RPGFan: http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2009/558.html
This definately excites me. I loved Lufia 2, and I'm currently in the middle of playing through Lufia (damn you encounter rate!) and Lufia 3 (damn you armored ship!).

Now that is fantastic news! It makes me think about other series I would like to see sequel to.

There's a Lufia 3? Is it a GBA game?
Re: New Lufia game by original devs
Game Boy Color, Lufia: The Legend Returns. 100 years after Lufia 1 the Sinistrals are back, and Gades kicks your ass very early in the game in true Lufia fashion. It has a very interesting party/battle system. You arrange your characters on a 3x3 grid, so you can take up to 9 characters into battle. However, only three people can act each turn, one per column. And positioning matters as well, and not just the standard front row/back row thing. Each character comes in one of four colors which represents their wave force. You can spend LP (another kind of point you earn after battle) to improve a character's wave level. LP is also used for learning magic akin to Lufia 2, so you need to balance out learning spells with boosting wave. Increasing your wave level will boost up a particular stat, based on the color, of that character and everyone in the same row or column. Red is str, blue is MP/int, green is HP/def, and yellow is spd. So the way you arrange your characters will affect their stats in battle.
The wave level also affects what IP skills they can learn. Each skill requires a certain level of each wave, so you have to adjust your party to be able to learn them. Finally, the IP skills cost 50% more to use if you don't have the necessary wave levels (the ones it took to learn it). So you need to take into consideration if the skill is still good to learn even though you'll have to pay more once you're in your proper battle formation.
Oh, and there is a fourth Lufia game, which was on the GBA. It wasn't made by the original devs, and breaks out of the every 100 years the Sinistrals come cycle. It's set approx. 20 years after Lufia 2, and you can recruit Dekar late in the game. I got about 3/4 of the way through playing on an emulator back when it first came out but couldn't bring myself to finish. It's not a horrible RPG, but it's not a Lufia game.

Re: New Lufia game by original devs
It's probably going to be on PSN and Xbox Live Arcade. I just hope they keep the original formula: Classic 2D RPG.
Re: New Lufia game by original devs
More details are out. It's a DS game, and it's a remake of Lufia II. It features 3D graphics, voice acting, and the battle system is now an action RPG. It will still have the dungeon puzzle solving.

Action RPG? I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that...I mean, I love Lufia II, but part of the reason why was because I loved the colorful battles and such.MrPopo wrote:More details are out. Re: New Lufia game by original devs
Sounds like crap. Why would I want to play a 3D remake that has all the good stuff from the original changed? The only thing I wouldn't mind is voice acting.
