PSP emulators

Post by ZeroAX »

so I'm buying a psp today, and I was wondering how easy is it to install one of the many emulators I see people praising the machine about. do I need a hacked firmware?

you need hacked fw, installation is simple, but in the case of mame, locating the correct roms is a pain in the ass lol.

1. All Phat PSPs are hackable with a pandora battery. No ifs or buts about it.

2. Most slim 2000 PSPs are backable with a pandora battery. The exception are those with the T88-v3 motherboard. Google for ways to identify such a system.

3. All slims including 3000 that have original firmware (OFW) of 5.03 or lower can be hacked using the ChickHEN method. On the 3000, you can't power off the unit (you need to put it to sleep) or you'll have to redo the ChickHEN method since there's no way to permanently install ChickHEN. The same goes for those T88-v3 slim 2000s. Putting it to sleep is not a big deal as it's something that I do all the time for fast bootup. PSP use very little battery power in sleep mode.

There are bunch of good emulators out there. Personally, I've been spending a lot of time with MasterBoy which is a Gameboy Color/ Sega Master System emulator. I'm also going to try doing some bug fixes for it and explore the world of PSP development. Very cool.

I so want to get into this once I get some money. The idea of having all those emulators sounds awesome.

Has anyone messed with the GPX2? I think that thing is designed for emulators.

I have a newly modded PSP, but no clue how to organize the folders and files to run games and emulators correctly. Can anyone help, please?

i'll be getting a psp 3000, but this method sounds too stupid (no offense to you mate) for me to do. there is bound to be an easier method around the net somewhere

Unfortunately, that's the way it is. I remember when I first heard about it, I thought the method stunk but the truth of the matter is, I use the sleep mode all the time. It's much more convenient. The only issue is that you need to make sure you plugin your PSP every week or 2 before the battery completely drains. To redo the hack, it takes less than a minute so it's not the end of the world if you inadvertently switch the power off or your battery dies.
