Got the pleasure to see him perform live in Raleigh just a few weeks before his death. My stomach literally hurt the next morning from laughing so hard. I doubt there was a person in the room who wasn't crying from laughter. He's no Groucho, but he was one of a kind. He didn't go after the cheap laughs, he really worked on his own comedy.

Agreed. I like comedy, don't get me wrong, but I was never into standup before I heard Mitch. He really changed that, which makes him pretty important in my book. Current favs include David Cross and Jeremy Hotz (I think). Also Jim Gaffagin (I'm Irish so I don't have to spell it right... isn't that a rule with same ethnicities?).

Jim is great. He deserves all the attention that that hack Cook gets.

Speaking of which,

This summer, an intern was telling me about something-- I don't remember the details. He made some joke that I guess I didn't acknowledge. He then informed me that he was quoting some comedian, but he couldn't remember his name.

I asked, "Is it Dane Cook?"

He replied, "Yeah, that's it!"

I asked, "You know how I knew?"

"How?"

"It wasn't funny."

Had I had some beverage in my mouth when I read this, it would have been spewed onto my monitor. That was good stuff.

I would get on stage on comedy night at some of the local clubs when I was in undergrad. Man, what a rush. I really miss it too, but don't have the time *blatant excuse*. What's funny is that my cousin Emily is performing stand-up now as well. She goes by the stage name Emily Lake, and no relation to the porn star. If I find a youtube video, I'll post it. A few of my West Coast friends are still doing stand up as well.

Now I'm all in the mood to go on stage.

Is that thing still around?
