One of my cousins is playing the sequel on the DS, so Ive gotten to goof off in it. It changes the lawsystem to something I like - if you break the law you dont get to revive for that battl eand you dont get whatever the prize is for the battle. It does have some slowdown issues on the bigger spells though.

I plan on getting it the day I buy a DSiXL. I think the bigger screen will help.

Yeah, I must say I've only played FFTA on my SP for minutes. I much prefer how amazing it looks on my 15" widescreen monitor thru the GBPlayer.

FFTA was good but I can't say it was great. I can't say I was too fond. I wasn't too upset with the law system, it wasn't that hard to have a diverse party to have enough options to work around them - it was certainly an annoyance rather than a positive feature and certain ones didn't even have reliable workarounds (e.g. Law forbidding knockbacks, when they occur randomly on regular melee attacks? Maybe if you bring all magic users?). I am also personally not overly fond of the "learn skills by having items equipped and getting APs" that was imported from one of the Final Fantasy games (as far as I know). It adds a bit too much micro-management to a game that would have enough (and optional in-depth, like making your own trained blue mage) without having to worry about keeping weak equipment on characters and winning a certain number of battles with that gear on.

The GBA Tactics Ogre (Knight of Lodis) however is absolutely great. It surpasses FFTA in all aspects IMO - story, presentation, and (most importantly) the game mechanics all make more sense to me (choice of classes and so on). I haven't played FFTA2.

I will say that while I prefer TO, FFTA did have some awesome maps to battle on and a much more story book atmosphere. It also had the best intro to a battle system possibly ever.

Yup, though it is quite debatable; on one hand, its a no-loss for you to understand the basic battle mechanics of the game; but then, it is quite pointless, since you later have a "real-er" battle with Montblanc, which is quite easy and you have more options (physical and magic attack).

But in a mission, you will notice that three zombies have the same name in the snowball fight!

True the Montblac battle was more full featured, but the snowball fight let new players get a feel for how the game is going to play. Introducing movement and basic combat, then later heavier combat and magic. I just thought it was a really nice way to move new players into the genre.

I just thought it was a brilliant touch, story-wise. I think the game is amazing visually and atmospherically.
