Re: No Sleep
Tea with a little extra velarian root works okay for me. Have you tried 2 NyQuil combined with some alchohol? (thats actually probably NOT a good idea, would probably work though
)

Just smoke some pot. You won't care so much about whatever it is you're so worried about missing. Stay away from prescription sleeping pills, they're addictive.

Re: No Sleep
If you're eating food at night and that is keeping you up buy some gum that you like and pop some in (keep it right next to where you are so no lazy factor comes in where you don't want to get up to get it). It works for me b/c for some reason my body gets in a snack mode at night and the gum quenches that feeling.
Unlike many others here though, I can pretty much go to sleep wherever/whenever, on my back/stomach/side within about 5-10 min. Usually I'm up playing games with a friend till midnight or so, we both log off, and then I head to bed with my wife. I know the feeling you are talking about with wanting to stay up and do more, it has definitely cost me quite a few sleep hours. The best thing for me is to just stop thinking about that and jump in bed; you can do it tomorrow and get sleep tonight. I force myself to think about how little hours of sleep I am getting and it makes me try (somewhat) to get to bed at a decent time. Also, if you are staying up late wanting to watch movies, why not watch a few with your wife during the afternoon time a couple times a week (or on the weekend)? Movies take up a big chunk of time on the weekdays.

Try playing vid games while you're actually in bed...but no sweet games, though -only boring pieces of crap.
But seriously, for me, reading in bed with a dim light helps with the transition. Try reading non-fiction stuff like biographies, the dictionary (
), business books. Maybe even a religious book. Anything that can hold your interest, but won't be a page turner. If its so boring that you can't get 2 pgs in without throwing it across the room then it defeats it's purpose.
Hope you get some sleep soon

Re: No Sleep
For several years I also had a very hard time making myself go to bed. I similarly felt like sleeping meant I was missing out on things. This was especially true for me during college (and at the very end of high school). However, I never did any sort of weekend crash where I slept for a long time to catch up on lost sleep. Except for once at the end of fall term my freshman year, when I caught mono just in time for finals, I'm not sure I ever slept more than six consecutive hours from about fall of 1999 through the end of 2003, and that was rare. I usually slept between two and five (on a good night).
Most of my problem stemmed from majoring in Engineering, having poor time management skills, and taking overloads, but my primary driving factor was that I didn't want to sleep for fear that I would miss out on life. When I wanted to sleep, there was usually something I felt like I had to do. When I finished most of what I had to do or was too tired to be productive, I wanted to play video games and stuff because I never managed to have time for that during the day. I always took 8:00am classes, and I worked opening shift at the Aquatic Center at 5:45am three days a week.
These days, I'm a lot better about going to bed when I'm sleepy. I get at least six hours almost every night, and I usually get about seven.
I think part of the difference for me is that I am not as motivated as I once was. Being in class screwed me up. Another thing that has really helped me in regulating my sleep was that I started running and lifting weights every morning. Actually, I alternate between the two activities. But, by making myself do these things in the morning, I have been able to motivate myself to get to bed at my bedtime (about 11:00pm). It is a lot harder to get up at six and exercise on three hours of sleep than it is on seven. Also, I think my body is better able to rest at night because it knows what is coming up in the morning.

hehe Married. My wife, interestingly enough suffers from the exact opposite as me. She is always tired and wants to sleep.vlame wrote:i was gonna say get a gf. i got with this girl who had severe insomnia, whilst we were together she slept WAY MORE...after she dumped me it came back...AwesomeMonstar wrote:you tried all the obvious? exercise, sex, food, etc?

Actually pot makes me wired. I have a bizarre and - in my opinion - excellent reaction to pot. I feel like those light fixtures you pass in subways or hallways that buzz loudly. I have that feeling all over my body. Def doesn't make me sleepy.Hatta wrote:Just smoke some pot. You won't care so much about whatever it is you're so worried about missing. As for the reading idea, this is the best I have heard. when I am into a good book I want to lay in bed and stay awake to read, but usually end up falling asleep. This might be the ticket! I have recently finished reading all of the series I was into, but maybe I will buy some of those Dune books Frank Herbert's son wrote - I have read and enjoyed the original 6.
