hey all.
ive been looking around for a soultion for this for a while so i thought id try here too. ive got some .MD (Multi Game Doctor) megadrive roms that work fine in emulators like Fusion, but when for emulators on the DS like jEnesisDS and picodriveDS, that file format is not supported. So i have been trying to find a way to convert them to ether .bin or .smd.
on another form someone gave me a link to a program called SMD BIN WIN (http://romhacking.net/utils/383/) which is supposed to support conversions between all 3 formats. gave it a shot but it ended up corrupting the file so no emulator could read it.
Tried looking at the support forms for it but they arnt up anymore. the last update was in 2007 i believe so looks as though its not supported.
does anyone here have experience in doing any conversions with this file type? much appreciated!
edit: here is a paper on the different formats...but it might as well be in another language for me http://www.emulatronia.com/doctec/conso ... is_rom.txt

Re: Genesis/Mega Drive Roms extention question (SMD, BIN, MD)
thanks for that!
just tryin it now with not much luck. put the file to be converted in the same folder as the program and ran with the command line.
C:\Users\eSPy\Desktop\roms\Sega\Supconv\SUPCONV.EXE MS zomb.md zomb.smd
and i get an error
File does not exist!
runtime error 103 at 0000:07D3
also tried writing the paths out in full like
C:\Users\eSPy\Desktop\roms\Sega\Supconv\SUPCONV.EXE MS C:\Users\eSPy\Desktop\roms\Sega\Supconv\zomb.md C:\Users\eSPy\Desktop\roms\Sega\Supconv\zomb.smd
and got the same error.
probably just missing one little thing, but if anyone could help it would be appreciated

Have you turned off the stupid setting in windows that hides file extentions from you so you are sure you have the right filename to feed it?
Tools > Folder Options > View > Uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"
Then check the filenames again.

I just tested it here and apparently the program is case sensitive on the filenames.

Re: Genesis/Mega Drive Roms extention question (SMD, BIN, MD)
Back in the early 90's when I had a few disk copier units, there was a very cool ROM tool called "uCON".
I was pleased to find it's gone open source recently:
http://ucon64.sourceforge.net/
It'll do image format conversion (to and from various units, including the MD/BIN formats you mentioned) as well as write to a number of flash carts (I use Tototek flash carts for a few different consoles).

Re: Genesis/Mega Drive Roms extention question (SMD, BIN, MD)
NICE! after a bit of configuration this thing managed to convert my MD to a SMD file that works in Fusion! just have to test it out on my DS but im sure it will work. tried doing a bin and that produced similar results as before, so ill just stick to SMD conversions for now.
THANK YOU!
also, the main sites downloads didnt work for me, so i found this mirror site

Often, if you search sites, you can find the ROMs on different formats, so saves the hassle!
