There are games that still come out and use this method!

Dead Space used the same thing, and it was great.

Horror/survival games do not need save methods that take the survival out of it

This topic is a little bit old, but I've been playing this game rather recently and just want to add three things

1. Dead Rising doesn't suffer from having a SINGLE save file if you have a hard drive AND a memory card.

2. Mini-chainsaw plus Entertainment, Engineering and Criminal Biology books=death to anything in the game that has the balls to f*** with you. Whatever the chainsaw can't completely decimate the Real Megabuster will, which is easy to obtain if you're willing to spend about four hours in the Maintenance Tunnels.

3. For those of you who like doing things the hard way, I found a very entertaining walkthrough of someone playing through the game starting at level 1 and rescuing ALL survivors. Here it is:

Dead Rising is full of frustrating design choices, but I love the game because it's unique in that it is the only game I've played that feels like a real, authentic zombie movie(and that includes the Resident Evil series). I also love how they worked the survivors into the game. Frustrating though it is sometimes to rescue them, the game just wouldn't be the same without them

This topic has actually convinced me to buy this game. It just sounds really interesting, and the fact that its shorter than normal console games actually appeals to me.

It's worth it, the game is cheap and certainly delivers enough entertainment to be worth more than what you'll pay for it. Thing is, Dead Rising is a trial and error game. So it's frustrating initially, but you learn more and more every time you play and Frank keeps gaining levels which carry over from game to game(this applies to unlockables too like the Real Megabuster)so eventually the game gets easier and that's when the fun begins.

The stuff I mentioned in my last post should eliminate some of the frustration for a first timer I think. There's still a lot more to learn when playing the game, but my suggestions address the most common complaints which are the save system and dealing with bosses.

The save system is sort of interesting. Sort of reminds me of Dragon Quest.

I should really take the plastic off this game and play it. I opened Crackdown last week and played it so there's hope for the backlog!
