wow. you guys take tattoos way way too seriously.

That's usually how it is. I've come to notice there are 3 kinds of people in this area.

1) refuse the idea... the idea of scarring your body to life just doesn't sit with them for whatever reason. And all the right to them.

2) Some people are kind of interested in it in a "oooooh, awwwww" kind of way. Like it's exotic. But would never go balls to the wall. They may get an arm band, or tramp stamp, or a mariad of nice tattoos that have slang words making fun of them. Not that these tattoos are bad or not legite in any respect. It's just the elitist freaks love making fun no matter what the area is.

3) The elitist freaks. They just love tattoos. I consider myself one of them. It's their way of expressing themselves. Selecting a tattoo is like selecting a part of themselves.

I for one feel I fall in this last part because to me my tattoos mean something to me. They are the visual embodiment of my attitude and mood. They usually consist of art interests or relationships with people I have. They symbolize a point in my life that I find important...

of course there are 2 I wouldn't really say symbolize much... but meshed in they are aesthetically all right. And more or less embody that sense of "when you trip get back up again."

But other then those 2 that really don't mean much to me. The rest mean a whole lot. Something most probably won't recognize just looking at them, but when I do... it's like looking at a journal or photo album. I just happen to carry them around with me for the rest of my life.



In any 3 categories I don't think any one person is wrong. In the broadest of scope it symbolizes merely the fact, "it's my body, I do what I damn well please with it." And in that respect not getting a tattoo is doing what you damn well please.

As a teacher I, like lordofduct, have to keep all of my tattoos hidden when wearing work attire. I have three tattoos as of now. I will try to get real pics later but here are the sources for all of them.

I have the Superman/Batman logo tattooed on the top of my right arm/shoulder:


On my right calf I have the Chi symbol:


On on the top of my left arm/shoulder I have the name of the crew I have been hanging around with since middle school.

I've seen some amazing tattoos, but they aren't for me. I've had some incredible moments in my life, but nothing that I need to be constantly reminded of.

They aren't for everyone, I always like the idea of them so I was pumped when I got my first, they should have meaning for sure though, People who get generic tatoos strike me as a little dumb, I mean if it means something to them(a cross perchance) whatever, but like someone getting a pot leaf...its like come on now

Never liked the whole tattoos with meaning behind them thing you see on la ink and stuff. I just get tattoos of shit I like. Maybe I'll join the tattoos with meaning crowd now that I have a daughter though.

I waited for years to think of a tattoo that meant something to me but in the end I got one of something that I just like the look of. Its a mauri style tattoo and I love the detailed lines and the red bits.



I'm totally hooked now though and I plan on getting more, including my wifes name and I love the idea of a sleave. Dont know what but something that wraps arround my right arm.

LoD - the tattoo on your back is very cool and although I've seen the google it tattoo before I never realised it was you that it was on
