Hey guys, been a while since I've posted here but I wanted to share with you something I did today.
I know to you guys this Fx chip overclocking and Starfox 2 repros isn't new but somehow these facts managed to elude me until earlier this week. So I found those Starfox 2 Repro Carts and these other really awesome repros scroll 2/3 down.

which ended up leading me to the FX overclocking..

And I had a vague notion of these before, I'm not sure if I saw this before or I imagined I did but either way its been a long time (in internet terms) since these mods where first done.
I looked for this overclocking to be emulated in the standard snes emulators did various internet searches and couldn't believe it wasn't done before. Does anyone here know of some other emulator with this 'feature' ?
Anyway I cracked open Snes9x's code, found the interesting piece of code I was looking for and in 1 line of code I was able to overclock the FX chip. Some interesting facts are that it doesn't really ramp up the my computers cpu usage at all and it appears the snes blocks until the fxchip is finished rendering so game ends up running at the 60fps or very near it, but the game is speed up as a result because they expected the slower frame rates. For example things like the intro audio listen to the original and then the overclocked one and there is an additional line of text they didn't get to in the overclocked version. Over all the game is far smoother and it plays nicer as the ship seems more responsive. As for DoomFX it seems the game looks like it has 300% fps and its really nice and smooth. No video of that though.
On to the video....

Sorry for the video I wanted it to be a side by side but the video software I used didn't support that.
edit: Can't attach emulator file is too big, here it is at rapid share. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Haha if only it had blast processing. Actually it looks a bit smoother in the emulator than the video. Did you try the emulator?d123456 wrote:Runs just as smooth as F-Zero GX?
