longest you've stayed up playing video games?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Longest time I've spent playing games peroid (regardless of how late I stayed up) would be about 7 hours straight on KOTOR, and the same amount of time on Civilization 3. Those are some great, hard-to-put-down games.
Only 7 hours?! I do that over 4 times a day!
How do you manage to have time for that?

Back in the old lan days we would play games for days straight literally take a nap and get going rinse and repeat for a week or more long some times. oh highschool summers.

A good friend of mine, from back in those lan days, now meet up for a vacation every year. He lives in another state now, so this is our new thing to do a gaming marathon usually about a week.

This is what happened the first time we did it about 2 years ago.

We get up pretty late cause we slept in until like 2pm or later from the previous night and where playing random games I don't remember all of what we played before we started playing gears of war. So we played GoW 1 on the hardest setting, the nightmare equivalent whatever that is. We make it to into late game, some hard parts but nothing super serious. Both of us are having a blast cause neither of us played the game before... then the game wont load the next level. Yeah my 360 scratched the disc, we where pissed. At this point it's about 6am and we really wanted to play the game. We fiddled with it for a while and gave up on the thing. We thought we were almost done with the game so decided to wait until best buy opened to buy another copy and finish the game. For a few hours we kept busy. 10am rolled around and were where at best buys door.

An hour or so more into it and at we are are at last level. At this point we are probably 8-10ish hours into the gameplay and have been awake for nearly up for 20 or so hours at this point.

The end level kicked our ass over and over. We couldn't beat it, we tried everything and I mean everything. Making up lots and lots these crazy ass theories after hours of desperation. One such theory was needing to protect the helicopters so they can destroy him because they said something in the very start of the stage. That made us think they would start attacking him eventually.

We are really damn stubborn about 'cheating' but we caved in and and looked online at a faq. We found out about the bow thing that kind of made since game design wise (we still like our theories better) though at the time we both had the bow and a bunch of ammo. So the faq didn't help much cause we honestly in some instances emptied our bows into him. But we kept trying and trying.. Eventually we decided to try it on the 2nd to hardest difficulty, we beat it the first time we tried and it was really quick... wtf. So we go back to the hardest level and go back at it.

After 10 hours, I'm not kidding, of this single level we gave up and went to bed. I honestly think the game had some sort of situational bug where the batgrub wouldn't take on damage. I've played the game though several other times after on that skill level and never had that much trouble beating it.

So anyone want a scratched copy of Gears of War?

That one makes me laugh personally every time. I don't care if you guys do or don't. I just find it great. It epitomizes to me the fact I'm not that "sex crazed" guy women like to accuse me of. I love the sex, but shit would I rather be fighting Zophar over sex any day!

I haven't played like that since I was a kid. Until last week. I came home from work early in the afternoon and unsealed my copy of Crackdown that's been sitting in my backlog for at least a year to try it out. I took a few breaks but ended up playing until 2 am and beating the first gang. It felt great to play a game like that again.

In the early '90's (whatever year it was it came out) I played Dune II over and over again; once, played the game solid for about 9 hours stopping at about 7am. Only time i've ever done that!

Rarely if ever will I stay up late playing games now, but I'm much more likely if friends are involved. This is part of the danger of online games. Back in the day I would frequently stay up all night playing Ultima Online.

I in fact did end a date because of Ultima Online. It was the night a new house decay policy was activated but no one knew exactly when the houses would fall. I told my friend to tell me as soon as houses started falling, and I told my date we had to stay close to home. Sure enough we were interupted early into the night and I insisted we jump in the car and go back home. She sat there watching me for about ten minutes and then just left. More importantly, I got some awesome loot that night.

Honestly, just playing I've never stayed up past 3am or so. I might have started at 8am, though, to make for a really long session on a weekend. But the few times I've stayed up through the night (never playing video games, except that time we played Smash Bros while camping out for the Wii release) I always feel like shit the next day, so I don't like to do it.
