the ironic thing is that Hobie-Wan would be able to nail this one quickly...

Eh, I'd probably have some trouble with this one too if I weren't making it. If its still unanswered I'll add another clue later on that should help. I fixed my mic issue so I can at least do that to record another sound. It won't be as good as line, but that is a problem due to the device I'm trying to record from.

I think this is a hint you guys. Meaning, it's a console or handheld lacking a headphone jack or A/V out.

Well, it sounds a lot like Robotron 2084 (arcade), so here's the ports:

Robotron 2084 - Atari 7800
Robotron 2084 - Atari 5200
Robotron 2084 - Atari Lynx
Robotron 2084 - Atari ST
Robotron 2084 - Atari 400/800
Robotron 2084 - Apple II
Robotron 2084 - Sinclair ZX Spectrum
Robotron 2084 - C64
Robotron 2084 - TI-99
Robotron 2084 - PC Booter
Robotron 2084 - Vic - 20

Or else maybe it isn't Robotron 2084?

EDIT - I left out "modern" ports on collections/DL since they are basically arcade-perfect

That was my initial guess, but I couldn't locate any of the sounds.

Certainly a frustrating one, and I hope to slap my forehead once the answer is revealed.
