Best PSX Backup Solution?
I'm thinking about getting a PSX modchip/bootdisc/whatever to play my backups/imports/both. What is the easiest way to go about this? I'm not opposed to soldering, but I would prefer not. Like I said, it would be ideal to not only play backups, but backups from other regions, as well. Also, what is a place I can order the suggested backup solution? Most online stores don't carry PSX modchips anymore, so I'm having trouble finding a place.

Here's a mod chip that you would have to solder, it's what I have in my console. I've ordered from this store a few times, they're great.

And I know SnowKitty use to sell premodified PS1's and offered to mod PS1's for forum members, not sure if he's still in that scene but you could ask him.

Agreed with above. Modchip.ca is the best online store I've ever dealt with. Service is exemplary, and my orders always arrive within 3 days of ordering. That mod chip is the easiest one I've ever installed too - even on my PSOne.

I used to use a plug-in device that lets you perform a swap method to load burned games, but got tired of having to do the swap (plus the spring that kept the lid "closed" made it a pain on multi-disk games". So I got the modchip that Ziggy linked and have been loving it. It's extremely easy to install, so if you're willing to solder I'd say go for it.

And while we're talking about the plug-in solution, modchip.ca also stocks the GameShark...

Re: Best PSX Backup Solution?
And for someone who has no experience soldering (I'm sure I could do it with a little practice on spare parts/bare wires, etc.) would this be relatively easy and straight forward...especially on a PSone which has a smaller chipset?

Another place to buy PSX mod chips (and PS2/xbox) is eurasia.nu. I've placed several orders there and have been pleased.

modchip.ca has instructions for all their products.
They're also very prompt to answer any technical questions you might have using their support/knowledgebase section.
