ePSXe question

Post by AmishSamurai »

How do you emulate a file to function as a memory card in the ePSXe emulator (or any PS1 emulator)? If you can't, will save states allow you to still play multi-disc games?

epsxe should already have 2 memory card files (emulated memory cards) in the memcards sub folder, named epsxe000.mcr and espsxe001.mcr. The game saves are stored in these files. Epsxe doesn't do a great job changing disks, for that I would use PSX.

Yeah, ePSXe emulates memory cards, but save states do a good job. You'll have no problem to change discs with either option.

As in an actual PSX, or is there an emulator called PSX?

There is an emulator called psx. Last version is 1.13, it is the most accurate playstation emulator to date.

Am I correct in thinking that PSX is the one that also doesn't need plugins? If so, it could be a bit more hit and miss than ePSXe, which along with being the most popular PS1 emulator, is infinitely adjustable to your system's settings using plugin settings. Try PSX, see if it works for you, or if ePSXe is perfect for your needs, thumbs up.

I've been using PSX, since it's a lot less complicated and can play discs right off the bat.

I suggest that if you're going to be playing multi disc games to save the traditional way often. Using only save states can sometimes lead to trouble in games like Final Fantasy VIII.
Thanks everyone...

A lot of people use pSX for that reason, ease of use. It can't enhance the image nearly as well as ePSXe though, not to mention Eternal SPU is an excellent sound plugin. I like pSX but only use it if ePSXe won't run a game at all(which I haven't had happen yet).
