What phone do you have?
Re: What phone do you have?
They shouldn't be using the phone while driving the truck anyway.

Or while loading and unloading, stuck on the side of the road repairing stuff, filling out paperwork and the logbook, laying in bed in the back, etc etc etc... there is a LOT to driving a truck. You are alotted so many hours a day to perform actual work, 10 hours driving and a couple more normal labour. If you're having to stop any job to fanagle your phone, you lose time, and lost time means fines and repremands. You lose time, you risk losing your job, boss coerces you into doing your job past the hours you're legally supposed to, your log books then get messed up, DOT then fines you, and in the end... a 200 dollar phone cost you a 1000 dollar fine.
Nevermind the fact truck driving isn't the only job I'm referring to.
My point is, no matter how cool and great so many features are (which a lot are), the primary function of the device is lack luster and fails to meet demands in functionality. Which is kind of sad, as it's something not very hard to design. PDA or portable computer phones were designed to increase productivity for working people... it's just an added bonus 'kids' like ourselves get to have access to them... but these business and working people are the prime audience. And the applications they require most are lack luster and bullshit.
I mean seriousily, are you saying that PDA phones don't have to improve on their phone application because people shouldn't be using it while driving? Really... you think people are going to stop doing that? They aren't, they've tried imposing laws, it doesn't fucking work. People are going to use their cell while driving... so lets atleast make it easier and safer to do so. And work on the warning and stopping people doing it separately.
But that 'safety' thing isn't my point... my point is productivity. And the device does not make you more productive when it comes to the 'phone' feature.

there's a green one to send, and a red one to stop.
I can call people on it.
It does what phones are supposed to do.
Yes that's a jab at iPhones and a lot of other super-fangle nonsense cellphones that do SO MUCH, and then fail miserably in the design of the 'phone' aspect of the whole deal. I don't have anything against the micro-pc platform in the consideration of the use as a micro or portable computer. But they aren't phones, they're computers with a really crappy phone application installed.
I have a Sony Ericsson. It was $50 at bestbuy. I stuck my sim card in it and away I go. I can make calls AND receive calls with it. I can also text message. It includes very useful apps like calculator, stopwatch, and blackjack.
I've yet to use a "smartphone" that makes making calls as easy as it is with my phone.

See this kind of ties in to why I have not had a phone in such a long time. I dont call people. I hate talking on the phone. However now that I have a baby I felt the need to have one incase something happens while my wife is at work and she has her phone with her. What I do do though is surf the web so I figured if I had to get a phone I would get one that I would actually use.

android is open dev, why don't you write a better phone app then?
or use voice dialing in your big rig?
wtf? i have never had a problem making calls while doing something else. it's really not hard, at all, there is just a learning curve. i feel like this is akin to the old guy in the office who just can't figure out how to get his infernal web machine to go back to "the internet."
