Pics from the Tokyo Motor Show

Post by hashiriya1 »

As you know, I am a huge car nut. This year I skipped the Tokyo Game Show
in favor of the Tokyo Motor show (The horror!) Anyway, these are just some
of the pics I took at this year's show.

You may ask yourself "Why are those old cars there? They are nothing special."
In Japan, 80s Japanese cars are rare. People don't keep cars very long. The older your car is,
the more expensive registration gets. Also, people think that after about 70,000 miles, the car is no good.
Of course, you all know that a Japanese car is in its prime at 70K. The myth about having to get rid of a car
after a certain amount of mileage is false. You can keep a car forever if you wanted to. Nobody does it.
UNLESS, it is a classic like a Skyline GT-R, Silvia K's, Fairlady, etc.
A lot of people were looking at the old cars going "Waaaa! I haven't seen one of these in years!"

The star of the show was the Bosch hologram. Everybody was in awe.
The Gran Turismo 5 rigs were cool as hell.

There were lots of girls, and I took pics of them..but this girl was my favorite.

Of course, like any other big event in Japan, the right wingers were outside preaching Japanese nationalism, anti-Korean and anti-Chinese BS. Nobody was listening.

Some of them, depending on their views about whether we're defending the emperor. We actually had a long discussion on them a few months back.

It depends on which faction. They are not all the same. Some are only anti-American,
some are only anti-China. Some are anti-anything that isn't Japanese.

But the anti-American ones are pretty public about their opinion. I mean, damn, they
go park their vans at the front gates of US Navy bases and tell them to GTFO of Japan.
They go to Hiroshima and Nagasaki blasting on their loudspeakers that "hundreds of thousands of civilians killed for the sake of a science experiment" etc etc

I don't really want to get into that subject tho, no need for debate on a car thread!

I don't know, chief. I think we need to debate whether that Mazda chick was hot or very hot.

Oh, man...her. All the other girls were "hot", but the Mazda girl is the perfect example of "Yamato Nadeshiko". I prefer beauties over hotties. But you can disagree!
When I saw her I was love. <3 <3

Heh, I agree. She's pretty, but more importantly her face gives off a warmth of character.

Awesome pics! If I knew they had a mint, stock MR2 AW11 on display I would have dropped everything and came. My girlfriend and I decided since basically all the foreign car companies weren't showing anything there this year that we'd be better off not driving down for the show.

I love this shot!

This is exactly the same car I left behind in America minus the black side skirts and twincam 16 badge on the rear lights. Its an 85-86 model because of the non color coded rubber bumper and mirrors. I sooo want to find a running AW11 in my area... N/A all the way baby... though a supercharged model would be fun!
