Luke, you should check out this album:
http://www.planet-mu.com/discography/ZIQ111

It's a beautiful mix of classical music and aphex twin-style beat madness.

Here's an example of one of my favorite tracks from the album:

I second that. Just be careful as this album is a little different from his others.

Also, this is good stuff. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=s ... nd&x=0&y=0

Thanks JT, feel free to throw more suggestions at me.

Listening to it (VERY LOUDLY!) as I type. Not a fan of the beginning, got better at around the 3minute mark, and really, I mean really took off at the 6min mark. Loved the end of the song, liked the groove of the song, but it didn't really "go anywhere", if that makes sense. Like a lot of Oriental music, it just seems to just play, with no solid composition.

Listening to Hospitality right now. Me likey. Tommy want wingy.

Maybe what I love about Aphex Twin over Venetian is that Richard can make music with just a violent and quick tempo, but can even make those arrangements sound smooth to the point of being soothing.

But still, it's interesting to say the least. If you don't wanna clog this thread, send me a PM with more artists like this.

For the last 3-4 years I've also been into the dubstep style that sprouted up not too long ago.

Here's a few choice tracks to listen to:

Vex'd- "Thunder"

Distance- "Night Vision"

Boxcutter- "Sunshine VIP"

Burial- "Near Dark"

Kode 9 and Spaceap- "Samurai"

You sir need to hit up Rag 'n Bone records and listen to some of the mixes. Vinyl is cool, but I wish they had some albums on CD I could buy. The mixes kick ass though.

This is usually said by people who think that Death Magnetic sounds like Master of Puppets. Listen to Death Magnetic, then listen to The Formation Of Damnation. Anyone who says that they sound alike (other than the fact that they're Thrash) does not have working ears.
2. Exodus - I love this band they are straight metal no ballads. They still release albums. I don't think there newer stuff is as good as the 80's stuff but you like some of the newer metal bands so you might like the new singer.
I listened to Bonded By Blood and Shovel Headed Killing Machine. These guys kick ass. Bonded By Blood reminds me of a faster Kill 'em All without Anesthesia (my favorite track).
3. Destruction - This band seems sound better and better with age one of the first if not the first German thrash band. Still releasing albums that sound modern and old-school at the same time. There older recording don't have the best sound quality so if that bothers you stay away from there early to mid 80's stuff and buy their 00's releases.
IIRC, the first German Thrash Metal band founded was Holy Moses. I agree with you that they're new material is awesome, I don't think the new albums get better and better (The AntiChrist is still my favorite album), but ever since All Hell Breaks Loose, Destruction has kicked ass and still keeps kicking ass. As far as the sound quality goes, Destruction rerecorded a few of their earlier songs from Infernal Overkill, Eternal Devastation, Release From Agony, and Cracked Brain, so there's no need to worry about that (though you do miss some classics). ;)

BEWARE! Destruction's 90's albums went from their Trash Metal sound to a Pantera-esque Groove Metal sound. These albums were so bad, that they were stricken from their official discography.
4.Kreator - probably the second german thrash group. Older recording sound better quality wise then destruction but their 90's stuff started turning Industrial /gothic but they returned to form in the 00's
The reason for the better quality is because you're probably listening to the Re-Mastered versions. Kreator had their 80's albums remastered, whereas Destruction did not. As for their 90's material, Kreator also had a hardcore album. They were going through an experimental phase. Unlike Destruction, Kreator's 90's albums weren't that bad IMO. Much like Destruction, when Kreator went back to Thrash Metal (Violent Revolution) they kept kicking ass.
5. Annihilator- A very intersting band that albums change metal genres throughout while the backbone staying Thrash. there is a differnt singer almost every album but thats okay because the guitarist write the lyrics and melodey so they still have a similiar sound.
I heard about this band, after reading this, I'll check them out.

How could you list Destruction ad Kreator, but not Sodom? Tsk, tsk, tsk. I don't remember anyone else on this forum being into Thrash. Nice to find someone. ;)
Luke wrote:I can't see how anyone can still rock out to master of Puppets.
You sir, are a dillhole. That's the album that got me into Thrash Metal. PISTOLS AT DAWN!

As with ever list I do, these are in no particular order:

1. Heathen: Kick ass Progressive Thrash Metal band that came out of the late 80s. Breaking the Silence is a non-stop skull-ripping Thrash Metal album. Victims of Deception is a little bit slower, heavier, and more progressive. I find that VoD has more meaning behind the lyrics than BtS. There was supposed to be a third album The Evolution of Chaos, but that (again) got delayed.

2. Metal Church: It's Metal Church, need I say more?

3. Overkill: the 80s albums sound like Iron Maiden and Anthrax blended together.
The album Horrorscope album seems to slow things down, but it's still good. I haven't listened to the other 90s albums, but Overkill's 00s albums just blast your ears off.

4. Skeletonwitch: I don't know if I can say this anymore since Brutal Legend came out, but Skeletonwitch is one of the best underground Thrash Metal bands. Period. While At One with the Shadows is damn near impossible to find, Beyond the Permafrost and Breathing the Fire are readily available and sound tremendous. These guys embody old school US Thrash. It takes Thrash Metal back to it's roots while simultaneously making it melodic (if that makes sense). I hope these Melodic Thrash Metallers make it as big as the Big Four of Thrash someday, because they deserve it.

5. Vader: This band is what I listen to when I want something Thrashy, but with the extreme heaviness of Death Metal. Vader (not to be confused with Darth Vader) take heavy, obvious influences from the Teutonic Three (Kreator, Destruction, Sodom) as well as Slayer and Dark Angel. Vader is one of the few Death Metal bands that I like alot. They have the Heaviness of Death Metal, but don't spend all of they're time wanking off to blast beats or growling. In my mind, this is what Death Metal should be. A good album from them to listen to is Future of the Past. It's a cover album with classic Thrash Metal covers as well as Death Metal covers and a Black Sabbath cover. ;) Skip the first track, their cover of Sodom's Outbreak of Evil is horrid.

I'd list more, but that'd be breaking the rules. ;)
