Mod chip will not work
Mod chip will not work
I've looked up everything I could to solve this, but the backups will not play. Originals play just fine, but back ups will go as audio tracks.

I have a Sanyo board on mine so the only documented method is the A+B, I tried it but it will not work. With this method the only thing that comes up is the audio tracks when I put a backup, but originals play just fine. There are no pics to show where to manually put the signal wire and in the troubleshoot I've seen, it is stated that it works on Jpn Saturns. The chip does warm up, so I know its trying to do something, but nothing will occur with the back ups. I know their good because I have gotten them to work with the swap method.

The Sanyo board only has like a 60% chance of accepting the mod chip. That alone could be your problem.
The chip isn't compatible with ALL Sega Saturns. There is a place to solder the signal wire, but for some reason that info has been lost in the years of neglect the Saturn has received. I for one had forgotten it YEARS ago. I know it's on the under side of the Saturn.

From my research it is the underside of the CD board, it is the chip that says "Sanyo" on it and it is pin 7. It says to try and trace the pin back a bit for safer soldering.
No promises though that it will work. If you do it try doing it in a manner that is reversible (don't CUT the trace... only uncover some of the green shit off it and solder in, if it doesn't work then tape over it with electrical tape).
The corner pins are all numbered on the chips, you just have to count in from pin 1. If for some ODD reason it isn't numbered look at the chip, in one corner there should be a small triangle arrow, that is your north end, the numbers go sequentially upward in a clockwise manner from that corner.

Here is what seems to be a portuguese forum showing a trace point off pin 7 on the bottom of the soyo CD board! Best of luck to ya. That appears to be a safe and reversible point to solder in case it doesn't work.
