Firefox 2 has a built in spell-checker and will automatically spell-check what you type into forms. I believe Safari for the Mac has an add-in that can do this, and so do any number of add-ins for Explorer.

Racket, yeah, you did in a recent post ;)

And I agree, Metaleggman, necessary is a thorn in the side of all who desire to spell.

I'm not specifically ranting at anyone in particular here, I'm just ranting in general. Many "professional" blogs and news sites regularly misspell definitely. I've just read it a lot here lately and thought I'd vent against the world in general.

Thanks, guys, for being understanding while I blow off some steam :)

And what's weird is I don't mind typos. If I see "teh" in a post or something where a letter was just clearly typed in the wrong order, that doesn't bother me. It's just a couple words that are like fingernails on a chalk-board.

i kinda doubt any forum or blog will ever be without spelling errors...but thats fine as long as the posts make sense despite the fact that a few words are speeled wrong :D

if a word like that annoys that many people you can always make a filter for the most common misspellings

Lol, now that was the only funny definitely joke in this whole thread. :P

I think the grammatical and spelling errors are probably worst in official comic translations. Tokyopop translations have tons of these. I don't think they are too much of a problem with Viz translations, considering it translates fewer titles. Being able to point out grammatical and spelling errors can make a second or third read of a comic better than the first. :)

I use Firefox 2 with spellcheck and glance over everything before publishing, so I'm kinda surprised that I missed one.

I know. I can't read some Tokyopop books because of that. Now if you're somebody posting in a forum spelling won't bother me, but if you're supposed to be a professional writer wanting my money you should definitely know how to spell definitely. Or at least know how to use a spellchecker...
