Talking about GBA... (random things)

Post by skyknight »

Well, wasn't sure about what I wanted to say, but I'll let it out here on this thread.

I do have a Arctic white GBA and a Famicom ver. GB Micro, how I got them are completely different stories. The GBA is a "hand-me-up" from my younger bros when they got tired of the GBA, already they played FFT Advance, DK Country 1 & 2, Yu Yu Hakusho, Advance War 1 & 2, and yet they never finished any of them! So I took in the GBA and the games, gave a couple of them away to young members of my church, and started playing the rest (AW, FFT, FE...).

Then about a couple years, I saw GB Micro going on sale on Play-Asia.com and got one. But now both set in one of my closet (well protected!), while I occasionally play GBA games on my DS lite.

Gotta say the experience of playing games on both are completely opposite - GBA is comfortable to hold, but hard to look at without a good light source; the Micro is good to look (small but sharp!), but your hands will cramp up pretty soon if you're not careful.

So what did some of you did with your GBA family after you got a DS family? Sometimes I do feel its a waste to play GBA games on a DS, when you have two kinds at home. Is the back-lit GBA SP still worth getting?

I don't recommend you bother... If you stick with the old brick, now that's hardcore. The only reason to buy an SP is if you still play Pokemon Ruby or Sapphire and don't want to spend extra money buyn' a Micro Link Cable Adapter...

I mean, what's the problem? Ya really gonna be playin' so many multiplayer GBA games that a system other than your DS Lite is necessary? Well, whatever you decide is all your call, dood...

GBA SP is the way to go my friend. I'm really glad I researched first. The Micro is so tiny. And has no backwards compatability. The original GBA requires perfect lighting to see the damn thing.

The SP's with the actuall backlight are the best in my opinion.

I have all three and I mostly play the micro. It is small but the screen and the portability are tits with me ...

I have a DS Lite and a back-lit GBA SP, and I prefer to play my GBA games on the SP. The DS has a tendency to kill the save files on any GBA game I have on a flash cart, and I use the GBA link port a lot because of Pokemon Emerald and Fire Red (same reason why I still keep my GBC and its IR port so I can still mystery gift with a couple of friends on Pokemon Crystal)

The back-lit SP is worth it , in my opinion - not only do you get to play GBA games on a bright screen, you can also play GB/GBC games on a bright screen - good because the original Game Boy and GBC don't have back-lit screens (unless you're lucky enough to have a Japanese Game Boy Light, and that can't play GBC-only games, as far as I know)

I don't even know if my SP is backlit. It's a red one. But either way, it's super bright and visable. Looks amazing compared to my wife's OG GBA.

Why bother with GBA at all when you can go super old skool and play with the gray brick :D Add a back light to that thing and you're in new school old school nirvana!

Anyway, If i had to chose one of the GBA incarnations it would definately be the sp. Nintendo got it right the first time with the shape of the original gameboy (as far comfort while playing for long periods of time) and the shape of the sp models after it the most accurately. Its also got the biggest screen (or is it the same as the regular GBA?) and the addition of the backlight easily makes it one of the easiest to see.

The micro is a kick ass piece of equipment. The screen makes the games look like sex and the battery life is awesome. Plus its small enough to fit on a keychain if you really wanted to which makes it great for portability but as mentioned before, its not really designed to be comfortable for long periods of time :/

So I guess to sum up what ive said, stick with the original GB because it kicks ass and makes you look cool in public. Carry a micro on your key ring with a game thats easy to play in short spurts like if you're on a bus or something (tetris maby?) and use an sp around the house for your RPG's and such.

Game Boy Micro is great. If you are in U.S, check your local Gamestop, they are only 30 dollars there. It's well worth it.
