Best version of Elite to Emulate

Post by romperstomper »

Hi guys,

long time reader and first time poster so apologies if this is in the wrong section!
read an interesting article on Elite being 25 years old. its been 17 years since i played it on c64. its not that immersive when i play it now on my laptop. can anyone recommend me the definitive version that holds up today? its Oolite (open source elite) the place to spend my time? basically i remember the difficulty curve being high and don't really want to waste my time on version a if version b is way better

thanks, RS

Ian Bell says that the best ports were the NES and Acorn Archimedes versions.

See here:http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/index.htm

However David Braben says BBC or c64.

It's the last question here:http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/ar ... 031200.htm

I'd head to Zophar's for more emulator info.

I recall running it on Nesticle back in the mid-late 90's when Ian Bell released the NES rom. I don't recall there being any problems, but maybe I'm not remembering well.

For the NES I'd stick with either Nestopia or nnnesterj. Lately I find myself only using Nestopia, but I've never encountered a problem with either.

Yeah, use something more recent than Nesticle. I don't know what's current on windows, but NES emulators are a dime a dozen on any platform these days. If you're still having trouble with that rom let me know and I can get you a good dump.
