I have tried listening to those guys, its really just noise to me, I am personally not a fan where the music just uses feedback as there music, there are reasons why I hated Sunn O))) with a passion, its because they all sounded the same and its just boring. I respect them for what they done to there genre but its really all just noise.

I havnt listened to these guys since I was a young lad in the early 90's. An older friend of mine had an album or two I think. Coming back to them for the first time in a very long while I can appreciate the sound but would have to say that its not something I would have on repeat all the time. I may also be clouded by nostalgia, they have the same effect on me as beck's mellow gold album.

I am fairly huge My Bloody Valentine fan and as much as I love "Loveless" I do have to say that I am more interested in "Isn't Anything" and the eps like "You Made Me Realise", "Glider" and (blasphemy- I know) but the more C-86 and overtly Jesus & Mary Chain sounding "Sunny Sundae Smile". The triggered drums and poor mastering on "Loveless" always sounded a bit off to me, though still the song writing is marvelous. The one thing I have always loved about My Bloody Valentine is how the vocals were very strong in a melodic sense but in a more subdued manner where they meshed with the guitars so the focus is not on the words but the melody itself and the voice as an instrument.

To each is their own but I find it rather misinformed when people just dismiss My Bloody Valentine's music to be solely built around feedback and noise. Are there elements of noise in their songs-absolutely, but to equate My Bloody Valentine to something that is actually noise such as Wolf Eyes or DNA serves as a disservice to actually describing what their music is. Personally, I would describe My Bloody Valentine's music as being melodic mid tempo rock music that is characterized by meshing of layers of guitar sound and dual vocals to create an almost ethereal, ambient mood on top of simplistic yet a driving rhythm section. It is a melding of Jesus & Mary Chain, Joy Division, The Shop Assistants, Syd Barret-era Pink Floyd, Brian Eno and healthy dose of Mod era rock n roll (particularly on the early MBV material). Some of the things tonal speaking that Kevin Shields did is rather remarkable as a lot of the recordings didn't employ effects pedals. It very well documented that he used an array of tunings, amp sound bouncing, and fixing the bridge of his guitars to have the tremolo tapped down to create many of the spiral-like sounds found on MBV recordings.

Like I said to each is their own. But if you dig My Bloody Valentine some other bands you may enjoy are:

Not sure why I never heard or got into MBV, but looks like I need to pick up Loveless at the very least.

Another suggestion for a 'wall o guitar' band I don't remember seeing in the thread would be Sugar (Bob Mould). I only have File Under Easy Listening, but I mean to pick up other stuff.
