The future sure isn't living up to it's promises

It isn't. Just look at Back to the Future 2. I don't see flying cars, re-hydratable pizza, or suits that make you stronger coming in 5 years. And just look at Metal Gear 2. We were promised walking robot tank suits with nukes that we would get in the mid '90s, and all we have are robots that build stuff in factories. And don't even get me started on Space Odyssey 2001. Why must the future suck?

Apparently the Jetsons takes place in 2062, so there's still hope.

Actually, we have a variety of robots for various military purposes, including bomb disposal, subterranean infiltration, and even for use in fire fights. We also use remotely-manned drones for aerial observation and assault, and we're working towards unmanned units. There have been multiple military plans for suits that make us stronger, as well as bodysuits that regulate temperature, and even a helmet system that allows a soldier to see through the eyes of the other soldiers in his squad. And those are the programs and DARPA projects the government openly admits to.

Meanwhile, there's the possibility of a 3D representation of the Internet(or possibly a new form of Internet that will completely outstrip our current build), as well as new cures for debilitating diseases on the horizon, new civilian uses for robotics to make up for disabled persons, and even a growing market for elderly-care robots in Japan.

The future kicks ass in my opinion.

The only things I'm really bummed about at the moment are our lack of permanent space colonies, and the lack of that awesome double-tie thing that Michael J. Fox is wearing as a grown-up in Back to the Future 2.

You do know that the military has been working on strength suit things that allow a soldier to lift 500lbs with ease as well as run around 25mph and all that jazz. Last time I read though, it had to be plugged in, and thats not a commodity on the battlefield.
