The Site Survived It's First Digg w/ Wordpress

Post by racketboy »

Well, the new server I'm seemed to be rock-solid today.
Even during the most intense part of the Digg mob (about 7,000 visitors in 10 minutes), the site was just as fast and responsive as ever.

Some of you may remember that when I was on Godaddy, the site was crapping out with much less than that.

Sweet. Oh and if you haven't, enable caching on WP. It should help even more.

Though the question I have is can it survive a link on slashdot?

Sadly I read the comments on digg, it kinda saddens me that so many people will make jibes and negative comments when they dont read the article. Or those that result to slurs and profanity when they simply dont agree with it.

Slashdot actually isn't as bad :)

I've been on Digg about 10 times and Slashdot about three. Actually, /. was only the "Games" section, so I guess that would explain why.
Anyway, this is the first time with Wordpress (which requires more resources than the old Blogger setup I had).
Even with Blogger, Digg would usually take down my old server with the first burst of traffic. Not so with ASmallOrange.

And yeah, I've gotten used to the Digg comments and such -- most of them just don't get it. It's not a "best of" list per se and I'm not gonna spend weeks writing about everyone's obscure favorite. I realize the situation and just deal with it. I know my core audience understands.

I just like being on Digg for the extra exposure -- it's really helped the site gradually increase it's readership.

Actually just overnight, my RSS readership jumped from 890 to 1100 or so according to Feedburner. :)
