Seriously, What Happened To Nintendo?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

That's a total lie. I'd say at least 70% of the PS2 library is pretty solid. The Wii seems to currently have about a 20% ratio of worthwhile games. Of course, this is mostly my opinion. But even the "better games" on the Wii like "No More Heroes, Madworld, The Conduit, Dead Space Extraction" have all suffered from MAJOR criticisms from gaming website and publications alike. You simply cannot say that about the "better games" on the PS2 like "God of War II, Metal Gear Solid 2/3, and the GTA series." Those games were great and the vast majority of critics and gamers mostly agreed. Other than Twilight Princess, what Wii game could you possibly say that about??
If Wii sales are declining so bad why are they still out selling the PS3 and XBOX360.
They're not in Japan. The 120 GB PS3 Slim has been outselling the Wii there since its release. And I can assure you that North America isn't far behind. Just wait till the new Final Fantasy, God of War III, and Gran Turismo 5 come out. It'll be curtains for the Wii
What are you wanting out of the Wii. What do you expect. I am really getting tired of all these complaints from people.
If there's a lot of complaints then there must be something to it. Wouldn't you think?
Why do you want the same games on the Wii as PS3 and XBOX360.
I don't. But I don't necessarily want/need another Mario Kart, Mario Baseball, Mario Tennis, Mario golf game, etc.. either.
Thats OK though I will enjoy my games and you can enjoy yours.
We can certainly agree to disagree. If you like your Nintendo, that's fine. I was interested in a few games but I just don't think I would want to support a company who doesn't seem to believe in quality over quantity. So go ahead, go play your M&M and Barbie games. I'll go play Forza and Tekken.

The PS2 has something like 1800 games, including Bratz, Baribie, and, like, five Spongebob games. Are you seriously trying to say that the PS2 has over 1200 "good" games?

If you want to play a game, play the games you like.

And, if you really want to talk about critic ratings, Super Mario Galaxy rated higher than God of War II, GTA3, MGS2, or MGS3. It is also not Twilight Princess.

For what it's worth, I own neither a PS2 or a Wii. If they ever make one that's durable, I'll probably eventually get a 360.

This thread is getting ridiculous and oddly/amusingly hostile. It's really not worth getting your rancor up to defend or attack a console.

Also we've had the "best percentage" debate already and the 32X wins:

Nah, man. We still knew those games sucked.

That's what I'm saying.

While I do agree Nintendo has changed there image a little, this accessory has nothing to do with it. To be honest, Nintendo has always been a family oriented company and making games for the whole family.

Fact is we "hardcore" gamers weren't exactly making them buckets of money during the dark days of the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube days. They needed to rebuild a new image and expand their audience and they have succeeded in great fashion. I think that the Wii and the DS has lots of great titles for gamers.

I'm not really a big fan of the constant DS revisions as of late though. I would have held off on a DSi if I had known a bigger screened version was coming down the pipe shortly after the first DSi came out.

I'm a little surprised by the gall it takes to insult a console based on games that aren't marketed towards you, aimed at you, and don't affect you. Do you honestly have an issue with the fact that a developers would make a game intended for little girls? Do you believe that young girls don't have a right to play such games? Do you believe that a console can't support different demographics?

You're judging games based on your own preconceptions - and fair enough, you have every right to do so. What doesn't make sense is ignoring the good due to the bad. Mountainous piles of shovelware existed on NES, SNES, PlayStation, and PS2 (the idea that 70% of PS2's 1800+ library is "quality" is utterly absurd). Perhaps Wii is the king of shovelware, based on the preconceptions of what you consider to be worthwhile. Again, fair enough. The implication that only John Q. Hardcore deserves to be called a gamer, however, is offensive. I don't want to play Baby Spit Up on a game console any more than you do - I have twin sons and they're long past that stage, thankfully. However, I'm not so self-absorbed as to imply that games like that shouldn't exist just because it's so far removed from the type of games I'd be interested in.

It wasn't until page three that your real argument came out: It's not the shovelware that's frightened you away from Wii, and hopefully it's not vanity telling you that owning a Wii will make you less of a man - you're simply not interested in the games that exist for the system. That's exactly the reason a person shouldn't buy a console, so congratulations. I, on the other hand, am appreciative that titles exist like Muramasa: The Demon Blade, MadWorld, Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, Little King's Story, No More Heroes, A Boy and His Blob, or Dead Space: Extraction. I'm appreciative that Nintendo has first-party releases like Punch-Out!!, Mario Galaxy, and Metroid. And in fact, I'm appreciative that companies out there are making games that appeal to my three year old children. The game industry (and an industry it is) was never made to appeal only to my demographic.

Weekend, you've been pretty controversial and short sighted in your opinion on this thus far and I have to tell you this, shut up and enjoy the fact that you can even afford a new video game console and games for it. If you're going to complain about it then you're simply talking apples and oranges; I love Gran Turismo and other Sony franchises and I love my PS3, but I also love my Wii and all of the games I have for it.

You need to stop being so shallow as to your opinion and quit making an ass of yourself. The Wii isn't made specifically for you and you alone, it's designed for a massive audience of millions and millions of gamers both new and old. But while I may joke around about Nintendo and the Wii's current state I'm not going to turn my back on the last bastion of the old guard of gaming simply because they've expanded their audience to include a modern contemporary family demographic. I grew up with Nintendo boxes and I've kept them on top even though I'm a staunch Sega advocate. Why? Because everything they've ever made is pure quality and every time I play one of their games I have fun. So, if third parties decide to grace my console with fun exciting and new properties like MadWorld, The Conduit, No More Heroes and Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom then that's just a bonus that I should be glad I had a chance to play.

So you my friend need to quit babbling and buy what you want when you want it, not come in here and start with a general joke complaint then try to evolve it into making us dislike or even abandon one of our favorite companies just because you're foreseeing their demise when Gran Turismo and God Of War come out. This company's sold more copies of a single game than there are even PS3's in existence, so don't stat running your mouth about how everything coming our way from the Big N and it's third parties is crap, because I'll make sure to keep enjoying my fun and innovative experiences then helping them sell more of a single game than there are of your entire user-base if it means that we continue to see high quality along with memorable and enjoyable games for many years to come.
