Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Haha I actually think this is kind of neat. I'm sure someone will get a kick out of it.

imagine this swinging a baby around like a tennis racket
or using its its legs as the grip of a golf club

The problem was that back then most shit was actually considered quality as nobody really had anything to judge NES games against except for 260and other pre-crash crapfests.

True, but over 30 years of videogame history means we have higher standards and there's basic expectations for what you'll find in a good game vs what you'll find in a horrible one. In fact it's pretty amazing that any good games came out of that era. Yeah there was some absolute garbage on the nes, but there wasn't such a separation between games aimed at kids and games aimed at everyone. It seems that now there's the shovelware at rock bottom prices aimed at stupid kids and stupider parents, and the quality games like mario or metroid.

In the nes days a lot of the garbage looked pretty much like the good games, army guys fighting evil guys or a random character who had to jump over shit. Take a look at most of the shovelware on the wii and I guarantee 99% of it is rated E.

Nothing happened to Nintendo. Something happen to the audience. Think of it like star wars the original movies were like an adventure with lots of family fun. The newer ones tried to be darker and any campy scene or character was seen as stupid and silly. Audiences change people change. YOU MY FRIEND HAVE CHANGED. You are an adult and lost your grasp as a kid. You are an adult and expect more adult things. Would you say the samething about the power glove, power pad and all the other weird or different accessories when you were a kid and childish games. As an adult myself I think of video games as my last link to my childhood and hold onto all the just fun games there are. Of course I got into the violent games as I was becoming an adolecent and they have there place too.

If you ask me I think the Wii has the most variety of this gen of systems thats why I picked it first. Do I want that baby doll no but if I had a girl I would love to have a way to get her into gaming. Get the games you want skip the ones you hate. I wish the PS3 could have the variety that PS2 had and the XBOX360 does have more variety then there last console.

In closing you should only get a wii if there are enough games to you to justify a purchase but if you don't have a Gamecube just think of it as paying $169.99 for the wii and getting a gamecube for $29.99.

Jrecee wrote:I dunno. I can understand his point. Just going down the wii game aisle at best buy is kinda embarassing.

I was looking at the release dates for wii games, and on october 20 alone there were like 25 games released, all shovelware.

Really this system isn't that much different for nintendo. The complaint with them has always been that you buy a nintendo product primarily for the 1st party games, and then the quality releases are few and far between. It's pretty much the same this generation except A.)The amount of crap coming from 3rd parties is about 10 times what it was for gamecube/n64/snes and B.)Some of those few and far between Nintendo releases have been no better than the 3rd party shovelware.

It's really the same argument we've been hearing from nintendo fans for the last 20 years, except now nintendo is actually making tons of money. . . . from 6 year olds.
Wow. One other person on this site actually seems to see what I'm getting at. If I'm going to spend my hard-earned money on a video game console, then I want a lot of great, solid games to go with it. Now of course I realize that the shovelware complaints have been done to death, but it just seems that Nintendo just doesn't seem to get it.

In the last few months what big games have we seen on the PS3 and 360?

We've seen..

Need For Speed: Shift
Forza Motorsport 3
Borderlands
Tekken 6
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time
Zombie Apocalypse
Wipeout HD Fury
Brutal Legend
Wolfenstein
Halo 3: ODST
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Demon's Souls
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Blaz Blue: Calamity Trigger
Fat Princess
NHL 10
NBA Live 10
Shadow Complex
Grand Theft Auto: Stories From Liberty City

Now what big non-PS3/360 games have we seen on the Wii hmm?
Wii Fit Plus
Wii Sports Resort
A Boy and His Blob
Mario and Sonic at the Winter Games
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up *Also on PS2*
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Curse Mountain
Contra Rebirth

*Yawn*

That my friends is why the Wii sales are declining. It's not because "everyone already has one," because surely I and A LOT of other gamers don't have one yet. It's true, I was thinking of getting one. But not if they're just going to keep releasing crap peripherals and half-assed last generation games that would probably look just as good on my PS2.

Go to virtually any Gamestop and ask them about all their preorders that they've had in the last few months (or longer if you wish). How many were for Wii games?" Then ask them how many they've had for Modern Warfare 2. You'll probably crap your pants!

It's true that I'm older now and my gaming tastes have matured and broadened greatly. Yet at my core, I still enjoy a lot of the same games that I did as a child. I still cherish my NES and SNES games. But I'm just not seeing those great AAA games on the Wii. Twilight Princess seemed like an instant classic, Super Mario Galaxy was said to be good, Wii Sports finally gave everyone a decent bowling video game, the new Punch Out showed promise, and Excitetruck and Excitebots looked fun.. but what else? Seriously, what the hell else?

Roughly 90% of the Wii games are crap. I find it hard to believe anyone could deny that fact.

The NES, SNES, N64, and the Gamecube never saw this much garbage. Hence the title of this topic - WHAT HAPPENED TO NINTENDO? Have they become a completely open platform? Are they becoming another Atari? Has success been too good for Nintendo this time around? These are all very relevant questions.
"Welcome to the circus of values!"

Currently Playing: Crysis (360), Destiny demo (PS3), Roadblasters (MAME)

Did you feel this way about the PS2 which had tons of shovelware, if not the most of any console. If Wii sales are declining so bad why are they still out selling the PS3 and XBOX360. What are you wanting out of the Wii. What do you expect. I am really getting tired of all these complaints from people. Just because there isn't titles you like doesn't mean its crap, play some of these games and then call them crap. Why do you want the same games on the Wii as PS3 and XBOX360. Now you said what happened to Nintendo so what shovelware has Nimtendo actually made. Just to help you out I will give you a list of some games that are considered good by some or at least not shovelware and unique to the system.

Animal Crossing: City Folk, Alone in the Dark, Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - The Director's cut, Battalion Wars 2, Bully: Scholarship Edition, Castle of Shikigami III
Deadly Creatures, De Blob, Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, Dragon Quest Swords (I liked this one maybe the only one), Elebits, Excite Truck, Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon,Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Ghost Squad, The Godfather: Blackhand Edition, Guilty Gear XX Λ Core, The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return, The House of the Dead: Overkill, The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga, Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, MadWorld, Manhunt 2, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Party 8, Mario Power Tennis, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Mario Strikers Charged, Mario Super Sluggers, Metal Slug Anthology, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Mini Ninjas, Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, No More Heroes, Ōkami, chanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers, Opoona, Overlord: Dark Legend, Phantom Brave, Pokémon Battle Revolution, Punch-Out!!, Rayman Raving Rabbids 1,2 and TV, Red Steel, Samurai Shodown Athologies, SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, Wario Land: Shake It!, Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure, Muramasa, Conduit, Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Thats only some now which ones are shovelware. Granted not everybody will like every game I listed Neither do I but just showing you some of the stuff out there. You like survival horror no better system for new horror games. Now a lot I listed was on the PS2 but most of the ones I listed are better play wise or visually then the PS2 counterpart. But I doubt I will convince you because you have eyes and could of seen this for yourself.

Thats OK though I will enjoy my games and you can enjoy yours.
