Dual Monitor Annoyance

Post by Ziggy »

This is so annoying for me...

I have a GeForce 9800GS in my Vista machine, so no nView for me. I have my main computer monitor and my HDTV as a second monitor. The TV is only used when I wanna watch movies and whatnot, it otherwise doesn't get used.

So normally I'll drag WMP over to the TV and go full screen. If I leave WMP on the TV when I exit it'll open on the TV next time I open it. But if I drag WMP back to my monitor and close it, it'll reopen on my monitor (no problems there).

So last night I wanted to watch a movie via NetFlix, so I dragged FireFox over to my TV and watched a movie. I dragged FireFox back over to my monitor and closed it. But now every time I open FireFox it opens on the TV. So every time I open FireFox I have to right-click on the task bar button, click Restore, right-click it again and click move to drag it back over (otherwise I'd have to turn my TV on for 5 seconds and back off, which I'd rather not do). It's very annoying.

This happen to me once before, and I tried searching for a solution but could not find one. I fixed it by doing something along the lines of disabling my TV as a monitor, restarting, opening FireFox on my (1) monitor, restarting and enabling the TV again. I'd rather not have to do this every time I wanna drag my browser over to my TV lol.

Does any one know of a solution to this? Is there no option to have a default monitor to open windows in? If there is no solution I guess I'll just have to do what I did last time and use only IE to watch NetFlix movies with.

It could be a driver issue, do you have the newest drivers available?

You didn't say what OS you were using. If its XP, Windows by default only remembers the position of so many windows you've used before forgetting them. So if you've been using it for a while, it might forget. I don't know if this same setting is in Vista or W7, but have a look.

Just thought I'd point that out.

I personally haven't had that problem, but I only use one monitor at a time on my PC. I personally don't trust Firefox, so I'd say go the IE route and see what happens.

Yeah, I'm using Vista and I have the latest drivers.

I guess I'll just do what I said before, fix it via my disable/restart solution and then just not use FireFox on my TV. Pretty lame, but I guess that's all I can do to avoid this annoyance.

Shit, I can't get it to stop opening on my TV no matter how many times I disable and restart!

Try this sequence of events.

Disable TV. Launch Firefox. While Firefox is on the monitor enable the TV. Then close and restart Firefox and see what happens.

I had the same problem when I had a similar set up (my PC is in a completely different part of the house now so I don't have the HDMI link up)

I don't think there's anyway to stop it doing it. I googled and googled and found nothing or even anybody else with the same problem. VLC was fine, it always opened on my main window, but when I opened a browser on the TV it would always just load up on the TV even when I didn't want it to. I had to do what Popo said every time. Which is so annoying I stopped doing it.

It's definitely a Windows thing, because my system has a HD4870 in it and it does the exact same thing.

Wouldn't be a problem if nVidia would give us nView for Vista. Sons of bitches!
